We have implemented a visual programming system CafePie. Program editing and execution in CafePie are performed in one window. All program editing operations are handled in a uniform manner. We propose to customize the object views, which prescribe the visible part of the program object. Data structures of the program can be visualized as users like by using visual transformation rules. These r...

In this paper we describe a Pythonand Tkinter-based visual-programming environment called ViPEr. This tool enables non-programmers to build computational and visualization networks interactively. Computational nodes can be placed onto a canvas and their input and output ports can be connected using the mouse. The connections between the nodes define a directed graph that will be used to propaga...

The great challenge in parallel computing is to make a task of programming parallel machines easy while not sacriicing the eeciency of target code. One of the successful methodologies is to start from a high-level speciication of the functional behaviour of a program by applying a sequence of optimising transformations tuned for a particular architecture to generate a spec-iication of the opera...

We propose a three-dimensional graphics engine targeted at simultaneous visualizing multiple data sets and simulations in progress using a number of different visualization methods. The user can navigate between different views in a way in which one would traverse a museum: by switching focus from one object to another or zooming out to include several objects at the same time. INTRODUCTION All men by nature desire to know. An indication of this is the delight we take in our senses; for even apart from their usefulness they are loved for themselves; and above all others the sense of sight. For not only with a view to action, but even when we are not going to do anything, we prefer seeing to everything else. The reason is that this, most of all the senses, makes us kno...

Scripting is a programming technique in which applications are constructed by composing specially designed, pre-packaged software components using a restricted set of scripting operators. Scripting simplifies programming by cutting down the number of the syntactic and semantic features found in a complete programming language, yet is inherently open-ended in that software components can be prov...

Centrality has revealed crucial for understanding the structural properties of complex relational networks. Centrality is also relevant for various spatial factors affecting human life and behaviors in cities. Here, we present a comprehensive study of centrality distributions over geographic networks of urban streets. Five different measures of centrality, namely degree, closeness, betweenness,...

This paper describes how a requirement for stereovision can impact virtual environment characteristics and performance. Human visual anomalies that result from the limitations of producing congruent visual cues are described along with possible solutions. The CAVE is used as a model environment that implements stereovision to provide users with visual contact with objects at arms' length.

We describe five demonstration programs for displaying variants of effects reported in the vision literature. The demonstrations use a windowed workstation environment, the X Window System Version 11. The performance of the window system is analyzed in terms of our implementation experience and suggestions are made for future window system architectures based on that experience. The visual effe...
