A recently reported binuclear zinc hydroxide complex [(L(1)Zn(2))(mu-OH)](ClO(4))(2) (, L(1) = 2,6-bis[(bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amino)methyl]-4-methylphenolate monoanion) containing a single bridging hydroxide was examined for thioester hydrolysis reactivity. Treatment of it with hydroxyphenylthioacetic acid S-methyl ester in dry CD(3)CN results in no reaction after approximately 65 h at 45(1) degr...

A family of chiral zinc amido-oxazolinate complexes are shown to be highly active and isoselective initiators for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of rac-lactide, yielding isotactic stereoblock polylactides (PLA) with Pm up to 0.91. This represents the highest isoselectivity observed with zinc-based catalysts for ROP of rac-lactide.

Chelation of divalent cations by 5 mM EDTA and subsequent removal by dialysis from a cytoplasmic HeLa cell extract leads to a complete loss of 5S rRNA transcription without affecting tRNA synthesis. Transcription complexes for 5S RNA can no longer be assembled in such a zinc-depleted extract and this ability can be fully restored only by the re-addition of 5 microM zinc. Reconstitution experime...

Five-coordinate geometry is the standard binding mode of zinc porphyrins with pyridine ligands. Here we show that pseudo-octahedral six-coordinate zinc porphyrin complexes can also be formed in solution, by taking advantage of the chelate effect. UV-vis-NIR titrations indicate that the strength of this second coordination is ca. 6-8 kJ mol(-1). We have used the formation of six-coordinate zinc ...

We have investigated the electroluminescence spectra of the electroluminescent devices based on the new zinc complexes of amino-substituted benzothiazoles and quinolines containing the C-N-M-N chains in their chelate cycles. The spectra exhibit strong exciplex bands in the green to yellow region 540 to 590 nm due to interaction of the excited states of zinc complexes and triaryl molecules of th...

zno nanorods and nanoparticles have been easily prepared via the decomposition of two simple schiff base zinc (ii) complexes, namely (n,n'–disalicylalethylenediamine)zince(ii) and (n,n'–disalicylalphenylenediamine)zince(ii) under microwave irradiation. the decomposition products of the complexes were characterized by ft-ir, xrd, sem, edx and uv-visible spectroscopy.  ft-ir, xrd and edx results ...

Capillary zone electrophoresis with on-column UV detection at 214 nm was used to detect and determine iron cyanide complexes in liquid samples from zinc electroplating processes. Using a cathodic injection and anodic detection scheme, hexacyanoferrate(T1) and -(III) ions were separated with baseline resolution in under 5 min. A linear relationship between peak area and concentration was obtaine...

The nucleophilicity of biomimetic zinc-thiolate complexes against methyl iodide has been studied. The activation barrier has been computed with the B3LYP functional. The reactivity depends on the global charge, the nature of the ligand set and the presence of hydrogen bonds. This shows that the understanding of zinc site nucleophilicity can not be achieved by the knowledge of the atom donor set...

Zinc complexes constructed from the amino-modified benzotriazole phenol pro-ligand, 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-6-((diisopropylamino)methyl)-4-(2,4,4-trimethylpentan-2-yl)phenol ((C8DIA)BTP-H, 1), were synthesized stepwise and structurally characterized. The reaction of (C8DIA)BTP-H (1) with one equivalent of diethyl zinc (ZnEt2) generates a dimeric and four-coordinated zinc complex, [(μ-(C8DIA)BT...

Zinc is involved in numerous metabolic functions, including energy metabolism, immunity and antioxidant activity [1]. The majority of zinc is found within the musculoskeletal system as part of protein complexes. In addition to providing structural stability for proteins, zinc also acts as a cofactor for metalloenzymes, including lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and carbon...
