Deriving Number-Needed-to-Treat and Number-Needed-to-Harm From the Saint I Trial Results To the Editor: In their recent publication regarding interpretation of the Stroke-Acute Ischemic NXY Treatment (SAINT I) trial,1 Koziol and Feng use the definition, but not the derivation method, for number-needed-to-treat (NNT) and number-needed-to-harm (NNH) that was previously described.2 As a result the...

We study a solvable QCD–like toy theory, a generalization of the Nambu– Jona-Lasinio model, which implements chiral symmetries of light quarks and heavy quark symmetry. The chiral symmetric and chiral broken phases can be dynamically tuned. This implies a parity doubled heavy– light meson system, corresponding to a (0, 1) multiplet and a (0, 1) heavy spin multiplet. Consequently the mass differ...

We study the quantum decay of D0-branes in two-dimensional 0B string theory. The quantum nature of the branes provides a natural cut-off for the closed string emission rate. We find exact quantum mechanical wavefunctions for the decaying branes and show how one can include the effects of the Fermi sea for any string coupling (Fermi energy). J.A. and R.J. were supported by MaPhySto – A Network i...

We propose a classi cation of critical behaviours of branched polymers for arbitrary topology. We show that in an appropriately de ned double scaling limit the singular part of the partition function is universal. We calculate this partition function exactly in the generic case and perturbatively otherwise. In the discussion section we comment on the relation between branched polymer theory and...

We address the conjecture that at the tachyonic vacuum open strings get transformed into closed strings. We show that it is possible in the context of boundary string field theory to interpolate between the conventional open string theory, characterized by having the D25 brane as the boundary state, and an off-shell (open) string theory where the boundary state is identified with the closed str...

Our earlier renormalization group study of simplicial gravity is extended and the evidence for the existence of an isolated ultra-violet fixed point is strengthened. A high statistics study of the volume and coupling constant dependence of the cumulants of the node distribution is carried out. It appears that the phase transition of the theory is of first order, contrary to what is generally be...
