The diffusion disk susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacteriaceae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa to cefotaxime was determined. A 30-mug disk provided data for the susceptibility of P. aeruginosa, but yielded extremely large zones of inhibition against Enterobacteriaceae. A 5-mug disk seemed to provide the most useful susceptibility data for S. aureus and Enterobacteriaceae.

We present a model for the dispersal of protoplanetary disks by winds from either the central star or the inner disk. These winds obliquely strike the flaring disk surface and strip away disk material by entraining it in an outward radial-moving flow at the wind-disk interface which lies several disk scale heights above the mid-plane. The disk dispersal time depends on the entrainment velocity,...

We present a detailed spectral study (photoionization modelling and variability) of the “Big Dipper” 4U 1624−490 based on a Chandra -High Energy Transmission Gratings Spectrometer (HETGS) observation over the ∼ 76 ks binary orbit of 4U 1624−490 . While the continuum spectrum can be modeled using a blackbody plus power-law, a slightly better fit is obtained using a single Γ = 2.25 power-law part...

Pluto exhibits a tenuous, predominantly N2-CH4 atmosphere, with Titan-like chemistry. Previous observations ALMA have permitted the detection of CO and HCN at 345.796 354.505 GHz in this yielding vertically resolved chemical thermal information. We report on new Pluto’s atmosphere ALMA, performed April July/August 2017 two main goals: (i) obtaining spatially-resolved measurements (∼0.06” ∼0.15”...

We argue that the X-ray and UV flux illuminating the parsec-scale accretion disk around luminous active galactic nuclei (AGN) is super-Eddington with respect to the local far-infrared dust opacity. The far infrared opacity may be larger than in the interstellar medium of the Milky Way due to a combination of supersolar metallicity and the growth of dust grains in the dense accretion disk. Becau...

We model the spectral energy distribution of the type 1 Seyfert galaxy NGC 5548, fitting data from simultaneous optical, UV, and X-ray monitoring observations. We assume a geometry consisting of a hot central Comptonizing region surrounded by a thin accretion disk. The properties of the disk and the hot central region are determined by the feedback occurring between the hot Comptonizing region ...

A 850 µm map of the interacting spiral galaxy M 51 shows well-defined spiral arms, closely resembling the structures seen in CO and HI emission. However, most of the 850 µm emission originates in an underlying exponential disk, a component that has not been observed before in a face-on galaxy at these wavelengths. The scale-length of this disk is 5.45 kpc, which is somewhat larger than the scal...

By solving the time-dependent radiation transfer problem of stellar radiation through evolving superbubbles within a smoothly varying H I distribution, we have estimated the fraction of ionizing photons emitted by OB associations that escapes the H I disk of our Galaxy. We considered a coeval star-formation history and a Gaussian star-formation history with a time spread σt = 2 Myr. We find tha...

Context. Based on their spectral energy distribution, Herbig stars have been categorized into two observational groups, reflecting their overall disk structure: group I members have disks with a high degree of flaring as opposed to their group II counterparts. Literature results show that the structure of the disk is a strong function of the disk mass in μm-sized dust grains. Aims. We investiga...

Context. SS433 is a Galactic microquasar with powerful outflows (double jet, accretion disk and winds) well-known orbital, precessional, nutational period. Aims. In this work we characterise different outflow parameters throughout the precessional cycle of system. Methods. We analysed ten NuSTAR (3–70 keV) observations ?30 ks that span ?1.5 cycles. extracted averaged spectra modelled them using...
