Purpose: İzmir is the province of Turkey with highest lung cancer incidences for males, therefore a comparative study was performed in particular districts 2013. In study, it aimed to assess association between risk and indoor radon.
Methods: Patients diagnosed 2010 2011 were selected from database Izmir Cancer Registry (ICR). Measurements radon concentrations total 117 locations using S...

Aerosol samples collected on filter media were analyzed using HPGe detectors employing varying background-reduction techniques in order to experimentally evaluate the opportunity to apply ultra-low background measurement methods to samples collected, for instance, by the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty International Monitoring System (IMS). In this way, realistic estimates of the impact of low-ba...

Castañar cave contains the highest radon gas ((222)Rn) concentration in Spain with an annual average of 31.9 kBq m(-)(3). Seasonal variations with summer minimums and maximum values in fall were recorded. The reduction of air-filled porosity of soil and rock by condensation or rainfalls hides the radon exchange by gas diffusion, determining this seasonal stair-step pattern of the radon activity...

Although radon dose to lungs comes mainly from shortlived radon daughters, most of its estimations for general population is based on the measurements of radon gas concentration instead of radon progeny and acceptance of a constant equilibrium factor between radon and its short-lived decay products. It is so because integrating passive measurements of radon gas concentration are simpler and che...

Background: The natural radioactivity level and the radon concentration of soil were measured at four important geothermal area located in Dikili geothermal region, Turkey. Materials and Methods: The natural radionuclide content of soil samples were measured by NaI(Tl) gamma spectrometer system and the soil radon concentration were determined using Kodak-Pethe LR-115 Type II Solid State Nuclear...

After radon gas diffuses into a diffusion chamber, 218Po will be formed. Due to its short half-life, a fraction f of 218Po decays before deposition onto available inner surfaces of the chamber, and the deposition fraction (1-f) represents the part which decays after deposition. In the present work, f has been experimentally determined for six diffusion chambers with different materials and dime...

In 1900, Dorn discovered the emanation in the uranium series that eventually became the well-known gas Rn. From 1900 through 1908, it was demonstrated that Rn is a radioactive gas found in tap water, highly condensable at low temperatures with a halflife of approximately 3.7 days and can be collected on charcoal by adsorption. Although, radon was discovered in 1900, the effects of prolonged exp...

Rn is the most important source of natural radiation and is responsible for approximately half of the received dose of the totality of the sources. Most of this dose comes from the inhalation of the progeny of Rn, and this happens especially in closed atmospheres. Due to this, the control of the levels of Rn concentration in the different geographic areas is important where human activities are...

The effects of UVC exposure on the track etch rate Vt and the detector sensitivity V of CR-39 SSNTDs were investigated through the diameters and depths of alpha-particle tracks. Both the bulk etch rate Vb and Vt increased but V decreased. The track diameters and depths were used to derive a V function for CR-39 detectors with and without UV irradiation. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd.
