hepatic coccidiosis is considered as a major problem in rabbits which mortality rate may go high as a result of unhygienic maintenance with overcrowding. this study was aimed to determine abundance and pathologic changes of hepatic coccidiosis in rabbits of northwestern iran. a total of 320 rabbits (110 new zealand, 110 angora, and 100 native) in different sex and age groups were randomly se...

In this study we tested whether the critical anatomical substrate for retinal direction selectivity is altered in albino mammals. We used dual immunostaining for GABA and choline acetyltransferase and quantitatively analyzed the number of double-labelled starburst amacrine cells in wild-type and albino rats. In albino rats, the percentage of ON-amacrine cells with high GABA content was signific...

Exposure to constant light causes extensive rod photoreceptor damage but spares the photopic system in albino rats. The rod branch of the dark-adaptation curve shows considerable elevation in threshold; the cone branch is hardly affected. Longer exposure and chromatic adaptation suggest that there are three cone mechanisms with peaks near wavelengths of 450,520, and 560 nanometers.

Albino-beige mice were produced in order to combine two experimentally useful characteristics, albinism and lysosomal dysfunction, in the same animal. The retinal pigment epithelium of albino-beige mice formed giant intracellular granules. Exposure of albino-beige mice to white light of 150 foot-candles for 3 to 10 hr induced marked phagocytosis of rod outer segment fragments by the retinal pig...

Plants that lack chlorophyll are rare and typically restricted to holoparasites that obtain their carbon, water and mineral resources from a host plant. Although not parasites in the traditional sense, albino foliage, such as the sprouts that sometimes develop from redwood tree trunks, are comparable in function. They occur sporadically, and can reach the size of shrubs and in rare cases, trees...

Retinal ganglion cell loss was investigated in the retinae of albino quails before and after the development of glaucoma. The isodensity maps of ganglion cells, the total number of ganglion cells, and the histograms of the cell size in the central region of the retina were similar between albino quails without glaucoma and pigmented quails. However, ganglion cells in the intermediate and periph...

iron oxide is an important biological agent that has a key role in medical processes; however, the mechanism whereby it provides iron for human and animal cells and its biological uses remains unclear. we aimed to evaluate the effects of oral iron oxide on serum iron status and compare the results with those of iron sulfate as a reference salt. fifteen adult rabbits were divided into 3 groups o...

background tendon injuries are common and it takes a long time for an injured tendon to heal. adverse phenomena such as adhesion and rupture are associated with these injuries. finding a method to reduce the time required for healing whichimproves the final outcome, will lead to decreased frequency and intensity of adverse consequences. this study was designed to investigate the effects of basi...
