Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) B-biotype and Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) often coexist on greenhouse-grown vegetable crops in northern China. The recent spread of B. tabaci B-biotype has largely replaced T. vaporariorum, and B-biotype now overlaps with T. vaporariorum where common hosts occur in most invaded areas. The impact of the B-biotype on the agro eco system...
The specific activity of alkaline phosphatase was increased in two human osteogenic sarcoma cell lines, SAOS and TE85, after treatment with 1,25 dihydroxy-vitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3). Enzyme activity increased when the cells were incubated with concentrations of 1,25(OH)2D3 between 10(-9) and 10(-7) M and cell growth was not inhibited at these concentrations. The specific activity of alkaline phos...
Human neutrophils contain a novel intracellular compartment that is distinct from the previously characterized azurophil and specific granules. This compartment is distinguished by the presence of cytochemically detectable alkaline phosphatase activity. The alkaline phosphatase-containing compartments are short rod-shaped organelles that rapidly undergo a dramatic reorganization upon cell stimu...
35 epileptic patients, aged 10 to 58 years (mean 23), who were taking anticonvulsant drugs were studied. the patients exhibited a 34% reduction in serum calcium levels, a 41 % increase in serum alkaline phosphatase activity and a slight but insignificant decrease in serum phosphate, compared to untreated controls. these changes appear to be related to the anticonvulsant drug taken, in the follo...
Differentiating Intracellular from Extracellular Alkaline Phosphatase Activity in Soil by Sonication
Differentiating intracellular from extracellular enzyme activity is important in soil enzymology, but not easy. Here, we report on an adjusted sonication method for the separation of intracellular from extracellular phosphatase activity in soil. Under optimal sonication conditions [soil:water ratio = 1/8 (w/v) and power density = 15 watt ml(-1)], the activity of alkaline phosphomonoesterase...
In vivo administration of isatin (200 mg/kg) significantly lowered the activity of rat kidney alkaline phosphatase after 5 hr but enhanced the activity of rat duodenal and jejunal enzyme after 2 and 5 hr (P less than 0.01). The increased activity of the duodenal and jejunal alkaline phosphatase might be due to the induction of the enzyme by isatin.
We have constructed a vector designed to facilitate the study of protein secretion in Bacillus subtilis. This vector is based on a translational fusion between the expression elements and signal sequence of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens alkaline protease and the mature coding sequence for Escherichia coli alkaline phosphatase (phoA). We show that export of alkaline phosphatase from B. subtilis dep...
Alkaline phosphatase activity in four strains of cultured skin fibroblasts obtained from a patient with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva was at the low normal range. The enzyme activity in normal fibroblasts significantly increased at late confluency. It appears that the high levels of alkaline phosphatase activity reported in biopsies of lesions are not genetically determined but are seco...
A fluorometric Fast Analyzer has been developed, based on the GeMSAEC Fast Analyzer principle. Potential applications of a multiple-cuvet fluorometric analyzer are considered. A primary concern must be referencing enzyme activity assays and enzymic substrate analyses. Once adequate referencing techniques are developed, adaptation of analyses can proceed. The advantages of fluorescence procedure...
