Titanium alloys are used for implant abutments onto which prostheses are attached. One major disadvantage of titanium abutments is their esthetics; the metallic gray color may show through the restorative material or through surrounding tissues. A laboratory technique using readily available household items is described that can alter the abutment color by anodization.

A nanoporous gold film (NPGF) was prepared onto a gold electrode surface using a facile and green electrochemical approach via anodization at 2.0 V in 0.5 mol L(-1) H2SO4. The as-synthesized NPGF electrode showed superior electrocatalytic activity towards dissolved oxygen reduction at a low overpotential (-0.045 V) along with 2-fold enhanced sensitivity.

Vertically aligned titanium dioxide nanotube (TNT) arrays codoped with nitrogen and 3d transition metals were successfully fabricated using anodization and nitridation processes. The codoping of N and Fe yielded the highest visible-light-induced photoelectrochemical water oxidation due to bandgap narrowing of impurity levels by N and Fe.

This paper presents titanium dioxide nanostructured surfaces prepared in organic electrolytes containing ammonium fluoride by anodic oxidation method. Two approaches were used for fabrication, one-step and two-step anodization. The obtained TiO2 surfaces have nanoporous structure. The morphology of anodized TiO2 nanostructures was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
