The aim of this paper is to prove the existence and uniqueness of mild and classical solutions of the non-local Cauchy problem for a semilinear integrodifferential equation with deviating argument. The results are established by using the method of semigroups and the contraction mapping principle. The paper generalizes certain results of Lin and Liu.

RECENT STUDIES ON COMPLEX PREDICATES, SUCH AS BAKER’S (1988) THEORY OF INCORPORATION AND LI’S (1990) FEATURE PERCOLATION ACCOUNT, INVOLVE SYNTACTIC MANIPULATIONS BASED ON HEADED STRUCTURES. THIS PAPER PROPOSES A RADICALLY DIFFERENT APPROACH WHERE COMPLEX PREDICATE FORMATION IS RESOLVED MORPHOLEXICALLY WITH MAPPING BASED ON PROTOTYPICAL ARGUMENT TEMPLATES. OUR STUDY GIVES A MORE SATISFACTORY ACC...

1 The Problem Argument structure has two faces, semantic and syntactic. On the semantic side, argument structure represents the core participants in events (states, processes) designated by a single predicator. From this point of view it appears as a type of representation of event structure. On the syntactic side, argument structure represents the minimal information needed to characterize the...

This paper presents a novel analysis of certain Mandarin resultative compounds whose interpretations have provided a challenge to traditional assumptions regarding argument-function mapping. We argue that the peculiarities associated with these compounds point to the need to recognise constructional effects in grammar. In contrast to previous analyses, which make essentially ad hoc modification...

With every real valued function, of a real argument, can be associated a matrix function mapping a linear space of symmetric matrices into itself. In this paper we study directional differentiability properties of such matrix functions associated with directionally differentiable real valued functions. In particular, we show that matrix valued functions inherit semismooth properties of the corr...

In this paper, we present a method to reliably compute the topological degree of a mapping in the plane, over a simple closed polygon. The method is based on Henrici’s argument principle, and computes the degree using the winding number concept in range arithmetic. The algorithm is then applied to the root computation of a univariate polynomial. The proposed algorithms are demonstrated with exa...

We extend a theorem of Masur and Wolf which says that given a hyperbolic surface S, every isometry of the Teichmüller space for S with the Weil–Petersson metric is induced by an element of the mapping class group for S. Our argument handles the previously untreated cases of the four-holed sphere and the torus with one or two holes.

This paper is meant as a brief description of the Romanian syntax within the dependency framework, more specifically within the Universal Dependency (UD) framework, and is the result of a volunteer activity of mapping two independently created Romanian dependency treebanks to the UD specifications. This mapping process is not trivial, as concessions have to be made and solutions need to be foun...

Students use Facebook to organize their classroom experiences [1], but hardly to share and form opinions on subject matters. We explore the benefits of argument diagrams for the formation of scientific opinion on behaviorism in Facebook. We aim at raising awareness of opinion conflict and structuring the argumentation with scripts [2]. A lab study with University students (ten dyads per conditi...

Section 2 concerns the classification of G-vector bundles. The precise statement is: The equivalence classes of k-dimensional G-vector bundles over M” “ subordinate ” to Pare in a natural one-to-one correspondence with the equivariant homotopy classes of maps of M into Gk( V’), the grassmannian of k-planes in V’, if t > n + k. The existence of a classifying map is proved via a transversality ar...
