This paper is on the elasto-plastic analysis of plane stress problems. A five-parameter yield surface is presented. This yield criterion uses associate flow along with mixed hardening rule. The analytical formulations are written and related computer program for non-linear analysis is prepared. Finally, based on the formulations, numerical examples are solved.
The Cosserat continuum is used in this paper to regularize the ill-posed governing equations of Cauchy/Maxwell continuum. Most available constitutive models adopt yield and plastic potential surfaces with a circular deviatoric section. This too crude an approximation which hinders application into practice, particularly geotechnical domain. An elasto-plastic model for linear formulation here pr...
The original formulation of the MRS–Lade model, with non–associated flow rule on the meridian plane in the cone region, has a corner. In order to reduce the computational effort of corner solution algorithms, a modified plastic flow potential for the cone part is found in the literature. This modification may have a non–admissible flip over of the flow vector in the cone–cap intersection if the...
Abstract: This paper builds upon previous studies (Farrugia, 2006, 2008) for developing a more physical approach to predict the mechanisms of high temperature ductile damage acting at surface/sub-surface and across the length scale of continuously cast free cutting steel billet feedstock. A methodology combining mechanical testing and modelling has been developed to account for local microstruc...
The aim of this work is to delve into the numerical analysis of viscoplastic-type non-Newtonian fluid flows. Specifically, improvements in the spatial discretization schemes and the temporal integration methods have been proposed to overcome the numerical problems introduced by the transpose diffusive term and associated with the velocity field discontinuity, the artificial viscous diffusion an...
The viscoplastic behavior of high density polyethylene, polypropylene, and polycarbonate under uniaxial tensile loading at constant strain rate and large strains was studied. Standard ASTM samples of the polymers cast by injection molding were tested at room temperature and constant crosshead speed; testing was conducted in the range of 5 to 300 mm/min. A single constitutive relation which capt...
