A series of supramolecular complexes of various cytochrome c proteins with 18-crown-6 derivatives behave as cold-active synzymes in the H2O2 oxidation of racemic sulfoxides. This interesting behavior contrasts with native functionality, where the employed proteins act as electron transfer carriers. ESI-MS. UV, CD, and Raman spectroscopic characterizations reveal that four or five 18-crown-6 mol...

Simple chelating agents have been synthesized using a porphyrin and a covalently linked crown-ether. Depending on the relative spatial arrangement of both motifs, the resulting ligands, either a macrotricycle or bis-macrocycles, differ one from another by their flexibility or their aptitude to chelate bivalent or trivalent cations. The coordination chemistry as well as the structural study of t...

The complexation reactions between Tl+ and Pb2+ ions and crown ethers 12-crown-4(12C4), 15-crown-5 (15C5), benzo-15-crown-5 (B15C5), 18-crown-6 (18C6), dicyclohexyl-18-crown-6 (DC18C6) and aza-18-crown-6 (A18C6) were studied in 90% acetonitrile and 90% ethanol solutions at 25 °C, using an a.c. polarographic technique. The stoichiometry and stability of the complexes we...

The electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Practical electrocatalysis of CO2RR must be carried out aqueous solutions containing electrolytes alkali metal cations such as sodium and potassium. Although considerable efforts have been made to design efficient electrocatalysts for investigate the structure–activity relationships using mol...

Ternary complex formation with solvent molecules and other adventitious ligands may compromise the performance of metal-ion-selective fluorescent probes. As Ca(II) can accommodate more than 6 donors in the first coordination sphere, commonly used crown ether ligands are prone to ternary complex formation with this cation. The steric strain imposed by auxiliary ligands, however, may result in an...

We investigate strategies for increasing the thermopower of crown-ether-bridged anthraquinones. The novel design feature of these molecules is the presence of either () crown-ether or () diaza-crown-ether bridges attached to the side of the current-carrying anthraquinone wire. The crown-ether side groups selectively bind alkali-metal cations and when combined with TCNE or TTF dopants, provide a...

New crown ether Schiff base derivatives were prepared by the condensation of 4'-formylbenzo-15-crown-5 or 4'-formyl-5'-hydroxybenzo-15-crown-5 with 1,2-bis(2-aminophenoxy)ethane. The structures of these new compounds were confirmed on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, (1)H- and (13)C-NMR, UV-Vis and mass spectroscopic data.

The first hybrid crown ether with two adjacent disilane fragments was synthesized through reaction of O(Si2Me4Cl)2 (3) with O(C2H4OH)2. By means of DFT calculations, the complexation ability of 1,2,4,5-tetrasila[12]crown-4 (7) towards Li+ was determined to be considerably higher compared to [12]crown-4.
