Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease. The liver is affected in up to 50-90% of cases. Sarcoidosis typically presents as non-necrotizing epithelioid granuloma. The occurrence of non-infective necrotizing sarcoid granuloma (NSG) is infrequent, and the finding of NSG in the liver is rare. We report a case of NSG of the liver and lymph nodes, granulomatous gastric ulcer, and secondary...

During the last decade, remarkable progress has been made in the diagnostics of pulmonary tuberculosis; however, diagnostic challenges in extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) remain to be addressed. Diagnosis of EPTB is difficult due to the pauci-bacillary nature of disease, the variable clinical presentation, and need for invasive procedures to secure appropriate sample, and lack of laboratory ...

Results of tests made in 1964 confirm the previous findings that live oral vaccine, prepared from streptomycin-dependent strains of shigellae, confers a strong, type-specific protection against acute bacillary dysentery. This vaccine did not reduce the carrier rate of shigellae. Observations on soldiers treated with a vaccine of Shigella flexneri serotypes 2a and 3 combined revealed no antagoni...

With effective antibiotic treatment, the bacillary index (BI) in multibacillary leprosy patients declines over a number of years. This can be quantified as a rate of decline in log-units per year or as the time until smear negativity is reached. In the AMFES cohort 220 cases had data on the changes in their BI over time, while 170 cases are documented until smear negativity. The average BI at t...

We report here a rare case of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) of mandible in an adult male, who presented to our department with a huge mass protruding out of the oral cavity. The patient underwent wide local excision of the mass, and histopathological features favored the diagnosis of EHE, which was finally confirmed by immunohistochemistry with CD31 tumor marker.
