The present study investigated a labeling bias against behavior modification in work organizations. Groups of individuals in favor or opposed to the use of behavior modification in industry were formed. The identical videotape of a performance appraisal interview was shown to these subjects after half of each group had received a humanistic, and the other half a behavior modification, descripti...

We report the first results of simulating the coupling of neuronal, astrocyte, and cerebrovascular activity. It is suggested that the dynamics of the system is different from systems that only include neurons. In the neuron-vascular coupling, distribution of synapse strengths affects neuronal behavior and thus balance of the blood flow; oscillations are induced in the neuron-to-astrocyte coupling.

This paper shows a development practice for the requirements process of a medical application. In this process, a psychology specialist was included in order to improve the application from the specification of requirements, considering subjects such as: support networks, behavior modification, increased intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and the creation of tools to facilitate patientphysician...

Adaptive trade-offs between foraging and social behavior intuitively explain many aspects of individual decision-making. Given the intimate connection between social behavior and feeding/foraging at the behavioral level, we propose that social behaviors are linked to foraging on a mechanistic level, and that modifications of feeding circuits are crucial in the evolution of complex social behavi...

Parasites that are transmitted from prey to predator are often associated with altered prey behavior. Although many concur that behavior modification is a parasite strategy that facilitates transmission by making parasitized prey easier for predators to capture, there is little evidence from field experiments. We observed that conspicuous behaviors exhibited by killifish (Fundulus parvipinnis) ...

BACKGROUND The weight-loss effect of team medical care in which counseling is provided by clinical psychologists was investigated in an university hospital obesity (OB) clinic. Nutritional and exercise therapy were also studied. In our previous study, we conducted a randomized, controlled trial with obese patients and confirmed that subjects who received counseling lost significantly more weigh...

The use of computing technologies to persuade behavior change has been an active research domain in recent years; yet, the question of the impact of persuasive messages generated from an understanding of a person’s daily living pattern from wake through sleep remains unanswered. This paper describes a recently completed study of a behavior modification sensor system that was developed and embed...
