To estimate the prevalence of bovine tuberculosis in the Alpine region, we studied the epidemiology of Mycobacterium caprae in wildlife during the 2009-2012 hunting seasons. Free-ranging red deer (Cervus elaphus) were a maintenance host in a hot-spot area, mainly located in Austria.
We report the complete genome sequence of bovine pestivirus strain PG-2. The sequence data from this virus showed that PG-2 is closely related to the giraffe pestivirus strain H138. PG-2 and H138 belong to one pestivirus species that should be considered an approved member of the genus Pestivirus.
The isolation and identification of an adventitious viral agent, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus, in one lot of A549 cells from a commercial supplier is described in this report. The presence of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus in A549 cells was unexpected and has caused problems in the diagnosis of infections in clinical specimens in three laboratories.
Herpesviruses isolated from either domesticated or wild carnivores should be immunologically compared with known viruses of this group which could have been included in the diet of the animal before being considered to be previously undescribed herpesviruses native to the carnivore in question.
