Communications Aqueous droplets of 250 pL formed in a microfluidic channel in a continuous flow of a water-immiscible fluid act as microreactors that mix the reagents rapidly and transport them with no dispersion. These droplets may also be used to control chemical reaction networks on millisecond time scale. For more information see the following publication by R. F. Ismagilov et al.

We experimentally investigate the performance of 60 GHz double sideband (DSB) radio over fiber (RoF) links that employ dispersion compensating fiber (DCF). Error free transmission of 3 Gbps signals over 1 m of wireless distance is reported. In order to overcome experimentally observed chromatic dispersion (CD) induced power fading of radio frequency (RF) signal, we propose a method for improvem...

ETHOCEL ethylcellulose polymers from Dow Chemical provide an alternative material to tri-acetyl cellulose (TAC) for LCD retardation films to increase viewing angle and contrast through its unique birefringence optics, excellent optical transparency, and low haze. Moreover, a new ETHOCEL-based polymer system has recently been developed with new optical properties such as tunable birefringence an...

Nanofluids with enhanced thermal properties are candidates for thermal management in automotive systems, with scope for improving energy efficiency. In particular, many studies have reported on dispersions of nanoparticles with long-term stability in the base fluid, with qualitative evaluations of the dispersion stability via either the naked eye or optical instruments. Additives such as surfac...

Microfluidic channel systems used in bio-analytical applications are fabricated using technologies derived from microelectronics industry including lithography, wet etching, and bonding of substrates. One important class of these channel system uses capillary zone electrophoresis to separate and detect chemical species. This technique separates chemical species suspended in a liquid buffer base...

The dispersion of bulk powders is important for a number of applications including particle characterisation, and the delivery of therapeutic drugs via the lung using dry powder inhalers (DPIs). In recent years the distinct element method (DEM) coupled with continuum models for a fluid phase to simulate fluid–solids interactions has received much attention. In this paper these computational tec...

solute transport in unsaturated porous media can be viewed as a coupled phenomenon with waterand heat transport, together with mechanical behaviour of media. in this paper, solute transport is formulatedmathematically considering heat and water flow in deformable porous media. advection, dispersion anddiffusion of chemical species in the liquid phase are considered. convection and conduction fo...
