OBJECTIVES To explore trial participants' understandings of randomisation. DESIGN In this exploratory study, which used qualitative research methods, in-depth, semistructured interviews were carried out with 20 participants from the CLasP randomised controlled trial. Interviews were recorded on audio tape and fully transcribed. Data were analysed by comparing transcripts and describing emerge...
Thirty years of research on early social and hormonal environments and their relationship to the expression of behavioral sex differences in rhesus monkeys are reviewed. These studies demonstrate that whether aggressive and submissive behaviors are sexually dimorphic depends primarily on the social and not the hormonal environment. Early rearing environments without mothers or allowing brief pe...
The continual reassessment method (CRM) is a sequential design used in phase I cancer trials to determine the maximal dose with acceptable toxicity. It has been established that the CRM is consistent under model misspecification but not generally. When the method does not converge to the target percentile, some dose-response models will be more sensitive than others in terms of how close the co...
The continual reassessment method (CRM) is a commonly used dose-finding design for phase I clinical trials. Practical applications of this method have been restricted by two limitations: (1) the requirement that the toxicity outcome needs to be observed shortly after the initiation of the treatment; and (2) the potential sensitivity to the prespecified toxicity probability at each dose. To over...
We analyze transverse doubled knots in the standard contact 3-space by using spanned clasp disks. As applications, we will estimate their self-linking number and furthermore we will show that in many cases, transverse twist knots with the maximal self-linking number are unique up to transverse isotopy.
Temperley-Lieb algebras have been generalized to web spaces for rank 2 simple Lie algebras. Using these webs, we find a complete description of the Jones-Wenzl idempotents for the quantum sl(3) and sp(4) by single clasp expansions. We discuss applications of these expansions.
background and aims. the aim was to evaluate the effect of three methods of fiber insertion on fracture resistance of root-filled maxillary premolars in vitro. materials and methods. sixty extracted human maxillary premolars received endodontic treatment followed by preparation of mesioocclusodistal (mod) cavities, with gingival cavosurface margin 1.5 mm coronal to the cementoenamel junction (c...
Behavioral differences between the sexes include methods of carrying books. Females clasp books against their chests; males carry them at their sides. In kindergarten and the first grade, both sexes carry like mature males. Sex-typical carrying appears before adolescence. Behavioral differences seem to be primarily a consequence of morphological differences and social modeling.
Dynamic behaviour of nonlinear free vibration of circular plate resting on two-parameters foundation is studied. The governing ordinary differential equation is solved analytically using hybrid Laplace Adomian decomposition method. The analytical solutions obtained are verified with existing results in literature. The analytical solutions are used to determine the influence of elastic fou...
