Ceftobiprole and ceftobiprole medocaril did not promote growth of or toxin production by Clostridium difficile in mouse cecal contents, whereas ceftazidime, cefoxitin, ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, and ertapenem did. The relatively low propensity of ceftobiprole to promote C. difficile was attributable to inhibitory activity against C. difficile and sparing of anaerobic microflora.

This study investigates the contamination of foods and surfaces with Clostridium difficile in a single nursing home. C. difficile PCR-ribotype 078 was found in one food sample and in none of the tested surfaces. These results indicate that food and surfaces are an unlikely source of C. difficile infection in this setting.

Infections caused by Clostridium difficile in hospitalized children are increasing. The recent publication of clinical practice guidelines for C difficile infection in adults did not address issues that are specific to children. The purpose of this policy statement is to provide the pediatrician with updated information and recommendations about C difficile infections affecting pediatric patients.

The production of antitoxin after Clostridium difficile-induced diarrhoea has not been reported previously. The stool of a patient with prolonged antibiotic-associated diarrhoea contained C. difficile toxin, and the serum neutralised the cytopathic effect of C. difficile toxin in tissue culture.

BACKGROUND The presence of indistinguishable strains of Clostridium difficile in humans, food animals and food, as well as the apparent emergence of the food-animal-associated ribotype 078/toxinotype V as a cause of community-associated C. difficile infection have created concerns about the potential for foodborne infection. While studies have reported C. difficile in calves, studies of cattle ...

Background Clostridium difficile is currently considered a significant cause of nosocomial infection and is associated with increasing morbidity and mortality. The probability of colonization of hospitalized patients increases with the length of their hospital stay and depends on the local epidemiologic situation. The study aimed to evaluate the epidemiological, clinical and treatment features ...

Clostridium difficile colitis is the most common gastrointestinal infection, exceeding all other gastrointestinal infections combined. There has been a dramatic increase in Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) worldwide during the past decade. Antibiotic therapy is a trigger precipitating antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD), which may lead to CDI. The antibiotic alters the protective, diverse...

Introduction / objectives Clostridium difficile is considered a leading cause of hospital-acquired diarrhea. Currently there are published case-reports of symptomatic Health-Care-Workers (HCW) and one report demonstrating transmission of C. diff from patient to HCW. Therefore, we initiated a prospective study to evaluate the prevalence of asymptomatic C. difficile stool carriage among healt...

Clostridium difficile is one of the leading causes of antibiotic-associated diarrhea in health care facilities worldwide. Here, we report the genome sequence of C. difficile strain G46, ribotype 027, isolated from an outbreak in Glamorgan, Wales, in 2006.

We compared the Qiagen artus C. difficile QS-RGQ kit, a new nucleic acid amplification test for the detection of Clostridium difficile toxins in stool specimens, with the Cepheid Xpert C. difficile test. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value for the Qiagen artus C. difficile QS-RGQ test were 100%, 89.5%, 60.9%, and 100%, and those for the Cepheid...
