Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with hypercapnia is associated with increased mortality. Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) can lower hypercapnia and ventilator loads but is hampered by a low adherence rate leaving a majority of patients insufficiently treated. Recently, nasal high flow (NHF) has been introduced in the acute setting in adults, too. It is an open nasal cannula system fo...

The FLP species 1-BR2-2-NMe2-C6H4 (R = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2, 2,4,5-Me3C6H2) reacts with H2 in sequential hydrogen activation and protodeborylation reactions to give (1-BH2-2-NMe2-C6H4)2. While reacts with H2/CO2 to give formyl, acetal and methoxy-derivatives, reacts with H2/CO2 to give C6H4(NMe2)(B(2,4,5-Me3C6H2)O)2CH2. The mechanism of CO2 reduction is considered.

This paper evaluates the costs to households of a carbon dioxide (CO2) cap-and-trade program. We find important variation in the distribution of costs of the policy across 11 regions of the country and income deciles. The introduction of a price on CO2 is regressive, but this may be outweighed by the distribution value of CO2 emissions allowances. We evaluate five alternatives: three are progre...

Urban forest management and policies have been promoted as a tool to mitigate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This study used existing CO2 reduction measures from subtropical Miami-Dade and Gainesville, USA and modeled carbon storage and sequestration by trees to analyze policies that use urban forests to offset carbon emissions. Field data were analyzed, modeled, and spatially analyzed to comp...

We investigated how leaf hydraulic conductance (Kleaf) of loblolly pine trees is influenced by soil nitrogen amendment (N) in stands subjected to ambient or elevated CO2 concentrations (CO2 and CO2, respectively). We also examined how Kleaf varies with changes in reference leaf water potential (Yleaf-ref) and stomatal conductance (gs-ref) calculated at vapour pressure deficit, D of 1 kPa. We de...

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is known as one of the major reasons for global warming. On the other hand, CO2 is considered as an abundant carbon source. Therefore, transformation of CO2 into target chemicals nowadays is of great interest. Recently, a concept of so-called "frustrated Lewis pairs" (FLPs) has been proposed. Such FLPs show unusual reactivity, such as hydrogen activation and the reduction o...

The reduction of CO2 by photocatalysts is one of the most promising methods since CO2 can be reduced to useful compounds by irradiating it with UV light at room temperature and ambient pressure. The aim of this work was to assess the effect of a reaction media on CO2 photocatalytic reduction yields over ZnS nanoparticles deposited on montmorillonite (ZnS-MMT). Four different reaction media, suc...

The solar-driven reduction of carbon dioxide to value-added chemical fuels is a longstanding challenge in the fields of catalysis, energy science, and green chemistry. In order to develop effective CO2 fixation, several key considerations must be balanced, including (1) catalyst selectivity for promoting CO2 reduction over competing hydrogen generation from proton reduction, (2) visible-light h...

We discussed here on a novel approach to recycle CO2 back to liquid fuels by using nanostructured carbon-based materials (doped with suitable metal nanoparticles) as electrocatalysts. This approach is based on the development of a new photo-electrocatalytic (PEC) reactor, working in gas phase, which is quite different from the conventional reactors that operate typically in aqueous slurry and/o...
