We study in QCD the physics of deeply-virtual Compton scattering (DVCS)—the virtual Compton process in the large s and small t kinematic region. In a number of papers an attractive method of laser polarization of electrons (positrons) at storage rings or linear colliders have been proposed. We show that these suggestions are incorrect and based on errors in simulation of multiple Compton scattering and in calculation of the Compton spin-flip cross sections. We argue that the equilibrium polarization in this method is zero.
The soft physics approach to Compton scattering at moderately large momentum transfer is reviewed. Compton scatter from radiotracer in structures close to the heart may partially or completely mask myocardial perfusion defects on SPECT imaging. Previous reports have discussed benefits of additional delayed imaging. We present a case in which additional delayed stress imaging reduced Compton scatter and unveiled clinically significant, stress-induced ischemia.

The properties of Compton–thick AGN are reviewed, with particular emphasis on BeppoSAX hard X–ray observations.
