Both total and unbound cortisol levels in the 67 normal subjects showed a skew distribution, which was roughly log-normal.Unbound cortisol levels in 11 of the oestrogen-treated women were in the norm...

Measures of implicit power and affiliation motivation, libido, and sexual intercourse were administered three times to 36 women and 18 men (mean age: 22.17 years, SD 1⁄4 2:25) and then aggregated. Reports of sexual intercourse correlated positively with the power motive (r 1⁄4 :28, p < :05) and negatively with the affiliation motive (r 1⁄4 :47, p < :0005). These correlations tended to be strong...

The incidence of headaches during the first year on oral cotraceptives corrleates closely with the incidence of well-developed arterioles in endometrial biopsy specimens. This relationship appears to depend on the ratio between progestogenic and oestrogenic components of the pill as well as the particular steroids. Therefore endometrial biopsies are useful for assessing the vascular response to...

Meta-analysis of observational studies is an exciting new area of innovation in statistical science. Unlike randomized controlled trials, which are the gold standard for proving causation, observational studies are prone to biases including confounding. In this article, we describe a novel Bayesian procedure to control for a confounder that is missing across the sequence of studies in a meta-...

A marked increase in the serum copper and caeruloplasmin levels in 25 female subjects taking oral contraceptives is noted. The correlation between the copper and caeruloplasmin concentrations, together with the finding of normal urine copper levels in 10 of the subjects, suggests that the increased serum copper is due to increased caeruloplasmin synthesis.
