We study the location of local minima of the finite sample approximation to the constant modulus cost function. This paper concentrates on source separation. The main result is a connection between the number of samples and the probability of obtaining a local minimum of the finite approximation within a given sphere around the local minimum of the CM cost function.

In this paper I develop a new approach for identi…cation and estimation of the parameters of an oligopoly model, without relying on a potentially unveri…able equilibrium assumption. Rather, I consider inference on model parameters when the researcher does not know precisely what decision rule …rms use, but is willing to consider a set of possibilities. In contrast to traditional approaches in t...

Precisely timed experimental manipulations of the brain and its sensory environment are often employed to reveal principles of brain function. While complex and reliable pulse trains for temporal stimulus control can be generated with commercial instruments, contemporary options remain expensive and proprietary. We have developed Pulse Pal, an open source device that allows users to create and ...

one of the most important aspects of software project management is the estimation of cost and time required for running information system. therefore, software managers try to carry estimation based on behavior, properties, and project restrictions. software cost estimation refers to the process of development requirement prediction of software system. various kinds of effort estimation patter...

OBJECTIVE To determine the cost-effectiveness of mandatory screening for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in pregnancy compared with that of voluntary screening under varying assumptions about patient behavior. METHODS Using a health care system perspective, a decision-analysis model was constructed to estimate the outcomes and costs of the two strategies. Average and incremental cost-effec...

This paper introduces a fuzzy decision-making algorithm for robot behavior coordination. The algorithm belongs to the arbitration class of behavior coordination mechanisms, under which only one behavior is running at a time. However, it is possible to use a hierarchical decision mechanism for hierarchical behaviors without interference between hierarchical levels. With this fuzzy decision metho...

Abstract In this paper, the effect of foreign sector macro-variable on inflation dynamics and firms’ pricing behavior has been investigated in the context of a small open economy New Keynesian Phillips Curve. This curve is derived and estimated for a developing oil-exporting economy suffering from Dutch Disease. This version of NKPC is an extension of Leith and Malley’s (2007) small open econom...

This article discusses ethical issues which are raised as a result of the introduction of economic evidence in mental health care in order to rationalise clinical practice. Cost effectiveness studies and guidelines based on such studies are often seen as impartial, neutral instruments which try to reduce the influence of non-scientific factors. However, such rationalising instruments often hide...
