Machining of hard materials is a recent technology for direct production of work-pieces. The primary challenge in machining these materials is selection of cutting tool inserts which facilitates an extended tool life and high-precision machining of the component. These materials are widely for making precision parts for the aerospace industry. Nickel-based alloys are typically used in extreme e...

Stainless steel (SS) is used for many commercial and industrial applications owing to its high resistance to corrosion. It is too hard to machine due to its high strength and high work hardening property. A surface property such as surface roughness (SR) is critical to the function-ability of machined components. SS is generally regarded as more difficult to machine material and poor SR is obta...

The quality of fruit targeted for human consumption is affected greatly by the methods used in processing. The objective of this study was to assess a method of treating cantaloupe melons to reduce the wound responses incurred by cutting while maintaining fruit quality. After being treated with an alternating magnetic field (AMF) at the strength of 2mT for 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25 min, Cucumis m...

Lianas (woody vines) reduce growth and survival of host trees in both temperate and tropical forests; however, the relative strength of liana-tree competition in comparison to tree-tree competition remains unexplored. When controlling for biomass, lianas may have greater competitive effects than trees because the unique morphology of lianas allows them to reach the forest canopy at relatively s...

Titanium are often used as dental materials, pure titanium present low strength and alloy is reported poor biocompatibility, respectively. To overcome the problem, we fabricated high-strength multi-directional forged (MDF) with improved mechanical properties without changing chemical composition evaluated its applicability in prosthetic crowns. Cutting tests: average absolute value of differenc...

Aluminium metal matrix composites reinforced with SiC and B4C particles are a unique class of advanced engineered materials that have been developed to use in high strength , high wear resistant and tribological applications. The conventional techniques of producing these composites have some drawbacks. In this study, the aluminium hybrid composite is fabricated using stir casting method. 10 % ...

Investment castings (usually involving ceramic based shells) have traditionally been separated from the mould tree using an abrasive cutting operation. While material removal rates are relatively high, the process unfortunately suffers from poor accuracy control that often necessitates further finishing operations. Following an overview of key considerations in investment casting including tree...

We examine the history of cake cutting mechanisms and discuss the efficiency of their allocations. In the case of piecewise uniform preferences, we define a game that in the presence of strategic agents has equilibria that are not dominated by the allocations of any mechanism. We identify that the equilibria of this game coincide with the allocations of an existing cake cutting mechanism.
