It is only recently that a number of studies on synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus and other brain areas have considered that a heterosynaptic modulatory input could be recruited as well as the coincident firing of pre- and post-synaptic neurons. So far, the strongest evidence for such a regulation has been attributed to dopaminergic (DA) systems but other modulatory pathways have also been...

Abstract We present a constitutive model for particle-binder composites that accounts finite-deformation kinematics, nonlinear elasto-plasticity without apparent yield, cyclic hysteresis, and progressive stress-softening before the attainment of stable response. The is based on deformation mechanisms experimentally observed during quasi-static monotonic compression mock Plastic-Bonded Explosive...

Cyclic AMP-responsive element binding protein (CREB) activity is known to contribute to important neuronal functions, such as synaptic plasticity, learning and memory. Using a microelectroporation technique to overexpress dominant negative mutant CREB (mCREB) in the adult mouse brain, we found that overexpression of mCREB in the forebrain cortex induced neuronal degeneration. Our findings sugge...

Studies on various forms of synaptic plasticity have shown a link between messenger RNA translation, learning and memory. Like memory, synaptic plasticity includes an early phase that depends on modification of pre-existing proteins, and a late phase that requires transcription and synthesis of new proteins. Activation of postsynaptic targets seems to trigger the transcription of plasticity-rel...

A fundamental issue in understanding activity-dependent long-term plasticity of neuronal networks is the interplay between excitatory and inhibitory synaptic drives in the network. Using dual whole-cell recordings in cultured hippocampal neurons, we examined synaptic changes occurring as a result of a transient activation of NMDA receptors in the network. This enhanced transient activation led ...

objective brain abscesses represent organized foci of suppuration within the parenchyma. here we report a 3 month-old girl with a very huge complicated cerebral abscess, and the course of treatment given. the patient's recovery was excellent. the follow up mri showed only subtle porencephalic changes as the only parenchymal sequelae, which may be due to cns plasticity in infants.

migraine is a primary headache which is very common in the society. although it is usually starts in a salient point in life span of an individual diagnostically, the repetition of acute stress response such as sleep abnormalities, anxiety, and depression are not new in this population. therefore, they have had almost a long diary of these abnormalities. in order to understand the role/s of str...

Todays, the requirement of lowering the vehicle weight for the reduction of the fuel consumption and emissions, one of the methods considered by designers is to use the ligh magnesium alloy under cylclic loadings. In this article, considering the microstructure of the AZ91D magnesium alloy, its crystalline structure, a model for predicting the ratcheting behavior of this alloy was adapted and v...

For metals under fatigue, microplastic strain localisation leads to the formation of discrete slip bands, which contributes initiation and propagation short cracks. In this paper, a band model is introduced investigate slip-controlled cyclic deformation crack growth in single crystal alloy. conjunction with plasticity normal factor-based critical resolved shear stress, finite element simulation...
