This paper describes our demonstration of a network repair problem where a drone places a new sensor node to replace a failed node in order to heal the connectivity for a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). It serves to show the potential of our published solutions for automated network repair when the repairing agent is a drone.

An increasing demand for higher spectral efficiencies in mobile communications will require next generation cellular systems to employ a dense reuse of spectrum in combination with smart interference mitigation or cancellation schemes. Recent publications have revealed the large potential spectral efficiency and fairness gains achievable with multi-cell cooperative schemes, where multiple base ...

In this paper, a two-tiered Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) where nodes are divided into clusters and nodes forward data to base stations through cluster heads is considered. To maximize the network lifetime, two energy efficient approaches are investigated. We first propose an approach that optimally locates the base stations within the network so that the distance between each cluster head and ...

As we know the wireless mesh network is playing a vital role in today’s network infrastructure. Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) have achieved significant development because of fast deployment, easy maintenance and low investment compared with traditional wireless networks. The structure of WMN consists of base stations, distribution system (backbone), links and the mobile stations. The issue is ...

Mobile phones continue to develop with more user features being implemented as new technology is released commercially. The boundaries will blur between internet, broadcast and mobile telecommunications. Significantly more radio base stations will be needed as communications technology nears the physical limits in spectrum efficiency and to support increasing data-rates. The impact of transmitt...

Three mobile phone systems are used in Poland: analog, operated at the 450 MHz frequency range, and two digital systems operated at 900 MHz and 1800 MHz. The GSM--Global System for Mobile Communication meets all relevant requirements, and it is most widely used throughout the world. According to the mobile phone concept, the whole communication area is divided into sub-areas (cells) where base ...

A mobile device connects to the cell tower (base station) from which it receives the strongest signal. As the device moves it may connect to a series of towers. The process in which the device changes the base station it is connected to is called handover. A cell tower is connected to a radio network controller (RNC) which controls many of its operations, including handover. Each cell tower han...

One of the main features of IEEE 802.16m is the relay transmission which could not only extend the service coverage, but also improve the quality-of-service (QoS) to the mobile stations. In this paper, we consider the cooperation among relay stations and mobile stations to improve the performance of relay transmission in IEEE 802.16m network. In this case, the relay stations and mobile stations...
