Study of physical and chemical characteristics of dust storms in Iran is necessary. In this regard, 10 samples from Khozestan dust storms in 1387 and 1388 were collected for XRD and SEM studies. XRD result show that mineralogical composition of these dust particles can be divided into three groups: (1) Carbonate group (calcite mineral), (2) Silicate group (quartz mineral) and (3) Clay group (Ka...

Introduction: The occurrence of dust storms in deserts or arid regions increases the suspended dust particles to more than the allowed threshold, and this has negative effects on atmospheric conditions, human health and agricultural production. Positioning of Iran in the world arid and semi-arid belt is exposed to various types of dust storm systems. Occurrence of severe dust storms in most par...

Introduction: Climatic components are the vital factors influencing the dust event. It was believed that changes in climate parameters play a crucial role in the occurrence of dust events. Former studies have shown that temperature, rainfall, and wind speed contribute to poor vegetation, providing requirements of dust events. Long-term dust data indicated that climate has a profound effect on d...

The infrared emission of various comets can be matched within the framework that all comets are made of aggregated interstellar dust[ This is demonstrated by comparing results on Halley "a periodic comet#\ Borrelly "a Jupiter family short period comet#\ HaleÐ Bopp "a long period comet#\ and extra!solar comets in the b Pictoris disk[ Attempts have been made to generalize the chemical composition...

The accident in the Rasa mines of 28 February 1940 was the greatest tragedy in the history of mining in Istria; an explosion, most likely fuellled by methane and coal dust, claimed 185 lives and injured over a hundred people. Documentation made available by the courtesy of Zdravko Hrastnik, a collector from Labin, and the archieves of the Vicenza town hospital shed some light on this tragedy an...

By employing two different spectroscopic techniques we have mapped out the variable ISM dust extinction endemic to globular cluster M4. We derive an average E(B−V ) reddening of 0.33 ± 0.01 and R = 3.4±0.4, both in good agreement with previous studies of M4. For individual stars in the most heavily reddened regions of M4, we find E(B − V ) values significantly higher than those inferred by stud...

Commercially used per- and polyfluorinated compounds (PFCs) have been widely detected in humans, but the sources of human exposure are not fully characterized. The objectives of this study were to assess the relative importance of different exposure pathways of PFCs in a group of Norwegians and compare estimated intakes with internal doses obtained through biomonitoring. Individual PFC intakes ...

A pilot study was conducted within the Ontario sawmill and veneer/plywood manufacturing industry. Information was collected by postal questionnaire and observational walk-through surveys. Industrial hygiene walk-through surveys were conducted at 22 work sites, and measurements for wood dust, noise, and bioaerosol were taken. The aim of the study was to obtain data on the current status regardin...

Burns due to explosions of various types of inflammable dust have been reported, including coal dust, flour and grain dust. A 33-year-old worker was burned over 33 per cent of his body surface area in a sawdust explosion. Recovery was uneventful. This is the first reported case due to this mechanism as far as we have been able to ascertain.

on the source of plasma density and electric field perturbations in pmse and pmwe regionspolar mesospheric summer/winter echoes (pmse/pmwe) are very strong radar echoes produced by ionospheric electron density fluctuations at half the radar wavelength. the main focus of this paper is the altitude range 80 to 90 km in summer and altitude range 65-86 km in winter in the polar mesosphere . this pa...
