Adenoviruses are responsible for approximately 5-10% of acute respiratory infections globally. However, there are a limited number of reports on the types of circulating respiratory human adenoviruses (HAdV) in India. We detected HAdV in the post-mortem specimens of a young child who died as a result of an acute febrile illness. To retrospectively investigate the circulating adenovirus types in...

OBJECTIVE Growing evidence suggests the separate associations of apolipoprotein E e4 allele (apo E4) and depression with incident dementia. This study investigated the separate and combined effects of apo E4 and depression on the incidence of dementia in both men and women. METHODS Of 625 elderly without dementia at baseline, 518 (83%) were followed over a 2.4-year period and were assessed cl...

Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) is a basic component of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). It plays an important role in the clearance of cholesterol from circulation, and thereby slows down the process of atherosclerosis. Its 3 isoforms, E2, E3 and E4 are encoded by 3 alleles, e2, e3 and e4, respectively. E3 is the most common isoform in most populations in the wo...

The first complete genome sequence of a p-nitrophenol (PNP)-degrading bacterium is reported here. Pseudomonas putida DLL-E4, a Gram-negative bacterium isolated from methyl-parathion-polluted soil, can utilize PNP as the sole carbon and nitrogen source. P. putida DLL-E4 has a 6,484,062 bp circular chromosome that contains 5,894 genes, with a G+C content of 62.46%.

Despite the utility of recombinant adenoviral vectors in basic research, their therapeutic promise remains unfulfilled. Most engineered adenoviral vectors use a heterologous promoter to transcribe a foreign gene. We show that adenoviruses containing the cytomegalovirus immediate-early promoter induce the expression of the proapoptotic cellular protein TAp73 via the cyclin-dependent kinase-retin...

Cell lines that produce viral gene products and that can support the growth of viral mutants lacking those products have been valuable in the genetic analysis of the transforming regions of several animal viruses. To extend the advantages of such complementing cell systems to regions of the adenoviral genome not directly involved in transformation, we have constructed a cell line that will supp...

OBJECTIVE Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a multifactorial disease that is caused by various genetics and environmental factors. Genetically, predisposition is an important component for CAD. The candidate apolipoprotein E (apoE) gene is the most studied one. ApoE is composed of e2, e3, e4 alleles and E2/2, E2/3, E2/4, E3/3, E3/4, E4/4 genotypes. In this study, the relationship between CAD and...

BACKGROUND/AIM Alzheimer disease (AD) is triggered by interactions of multiple genetic and environmental factors. The APOE gene E4 allele is the best-known risk factor for AD, yet it represents a small ratio of genetic factors. According to genome-wide association studies, the BIN1 gene is the second important risk factor for AD, following the APOE gene. We aimed to identify a novel biomarker i...

OBJECTIVE An interaction effect of depressive symptoms and APOE e4 allele status on cognitive decline has been shown in old age: e4 allele carriers with more depressive symptoms have faster cognitive decline than those with either depression or the e4 allele. We test this interaction effect on four cognitive domains, using a clinical depression measure comparing current versus lifetime depressi...

Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM) MRI at 7 Tesla and 11-Carbon Pittsburgh-Compound-B PET were used for investigating the relationship between brain iron and Amyloid beta (Aβ) plaque-load in a context of increased risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD), as reflected by the Apolipoprotein E ε4 (APOE-e4) allele and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in elderly subjects. Carriers of APOE-e4 with no...
