OBJECTIVE To assess the association between electrocardiogram (ECG) changes in non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE- ACS) patients with severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) and short-term outcome. METHODS In this cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study, 111 patients admitted to the Cardiology Department of Shahid Madani Heart Hospital, Tabriz, Iran between March 20...

Electrocardiograph (ECG) interpretation is a complex subject that requires considerable experience. However, an understanding of the principles underlying generation of the ECG can make this learning process easier. This knowledge is necessary if interpretation is to be founded on understanding rather than being a pattern recognition-based process. The aim of this article is to introduce the pr...

Respiration and body position changes (BPC) affect on the morphology of electrocardiograph (ECG). This variation can be modeled by the rotation of vectorcardiographic (VCG) loop. To visualize the distortion on ECG, caused by these motion artifacts, a software simulation environment was created. With user adjustable rotation angles it enables observation of the influence of VCG loop movement on ...

Clinicians often fail to detect intraoperative ischemic electrocardiographic (ECG) changes when viewing oscilloscopes. Automated ST-segment monitors promise to increase the detection of such ECG changes. We investigated the capacity of two commercially available ST-segment monitors to detect intraoperative myocardial ischemia in patients at high risk for developing intraoperative myocardial isc...

CONTEXT The electrocardiographic (ECG) pattern of high-grade stenosis of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) is important clinically because of the high risk of myocardial infarction and cardiac death if the pattern is not recognized. Although the recognition of this pattern is currently widespread, false-positive ECG changes that mimic this pattern are infrequently reported. O...

A computer model for simulation of surface ECG that enables to study heart repolarization changes is introduced. It includes heart geometry and structure description, predefined elemental action potential forms and enables computation of ECG potentials on the surface of an inhomogeneous torso. The influence of the action potentials form on the STT part and T-wave of ECG signals is demonstrated.

doxorubicin (dox) is an anthracycline antibiotic with broad spectrum anti-tumour activity. its effectiveness has been limited by the occurrence of dose-related myocardial and bone marrow toxicity. as oxidative stress is the main factor in dox-induced cardiotoxicity, we presumed that agents which enhance endogenous antioxidants can prevent dox induced cardiotoxicity. animals received either dox ...

Objective: This study aimed to determine the association of cardiac risk factors and the risk of Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) in Emergency Department (ED) patients with non-diagnostic ECG changes. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the ED of Imam Hossein Hospital during a period of one year. In this study, patients with symptoms s...

Cardiovascular-related sudden death is the leading cause of mortality in athletes during sport. The majority of disorders associated with increased risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD), such as cardiomyopathies and primary electrical diseases, are suggested by abnormal findings present on an ECG. ECG interpretation in athletes requires careful analysis to properly distinguish physiological change...
