We compute the electrical conductivity for liquid hydrogen at high pressure using Monte Carlo techniques. The method uses coupled electron-ion Monte Carlo simulations to generate configurations of liquid hydrogen. For each configuration, correlated sampling of electrons is performed in order to calculate a set of lowest many-body eigenstates and current-current correlation functions of the syst...

Defibrillation shocks are commonly used to terminate life-threatening arrhythmias. According to the excitation theory of defibrillation, such shocks are aimed at depolarizing the membranes of most cardiac cells resulting in resynchronization of electrical activity in the heart. If shock-induced changes in transmembrane potential are large enough, they can cause transient tissue damage due to el...

Forty subjects served in a study investigating the characteristics of experimental pain measures. Subjects indicated when their pain threshold and tolerance levels had been reached with each of three stressors: cold, pressure, and electrical shock. Using the multitrait-multimethod matrix procedure, the measures of threshold and tolerance were found to show both generality and discriminant valid...

In recent years, accidents of urban large scale sewage treatment plant at home and abroad have took a big loss to countries and individuals. Based on field research and scientific analysis of one large sewage treatment plant this paper use the safety check list to evaluate its safety and get that the main risk factors which should be focused on are poisoning and suffocation, electrical injuries...

Introduction The Riata and Riata ST implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) leads, a narrow caliber silicone lead without an outer jacket, have been shown to be prone to structural and electrical failure. While much interest has been shown in potentially lethal high-voltage (HV) failures caused by electrical short circuits due to a breach in the ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) insulati...

The crystal structure of the coordination polymer diaqua(μ-5,5'-bistetrazolatoκN,N,N,N)copper(II) was determined by X-ray diffraction. The copper atoms are connected to chains over the bridging 5,5'-bistetrazolato ligand. The energetic properties of the compound were investigated, such as thermal behavior and sensitivities (shock, friction, electrical spark).

The development of atrial fibrillation in 2 patients, following an electrical shock is reported. One patient, with an underlying pre-excitation syndrome, had to be cardioverted due to rapid ventricular rate and hypotension. The other, with normal conduction, tolerated the arrhythmia well and atrial fibrillation reverted spontaneously after 24 hours.

There is strong experimental evidence for the existence of strange modes of failure of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices under mechanical shock and impact. Such failures have not been explained with conventional models of MEMS. These failures are characterized by overlaps between moving microstructures and stationary electrodes, which cause electrical shorts. This work presents mode...

BACKGROUND Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and electrical defibrillation are the primary treatment options for ventricular fibrillation (VF). While recent studies have shown that providing CPR prior to defibrillation may improve outcomes, the effects of CPR quality remain unclear. Specifically, the clinical effects of compression depth and pauses in chest compression prior to defibrillation...
