This paper discusses the sorbent properties of magnetic activated carbons and biochars produced by wet impregnation with iron oxides. The sorbents had magnetic susceptibilities consistent with theoretical predictions for carbon-magnetite composites. The high BET surface areas of the activated carbons were preserved in the synthesis, and enhanced for one low surface area biochar by dissolving ca...

the absence of a universally accepted mathematical model for assessment of the effectiveness of drugs in the process of wound healing is one of the problems the health professionals have been faced. in this study, an “empirical” mathematical model is presented to evaluate its reliability from an experimental viewpoint and from a comparative aspect with previous models used to study wound healin...

Surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry is a powerful tool for rapidly generating protein expression data (peptide and protein profiles) from a large number of samples. However, as with any technology, it must be optimized and reproducible for one to have confidence in the results. Using a classical statistical method called the fractional factorial design ...

We prove some generic properties for Cr , r = 1, 2, . . . ,∞, areapreserving diffeomorphism on compact surfaces. The main result is that the union of the stable (or unstable) manifolds of hyperbolic periodic points are dense in the surface. This extends the result of Franks and Le Calvez [8] on S to general surfaces. The proof uses the theory of prime ends and Lefschetz fixed point theorem.

A. We study the surface area of an ellipsoid in E as the function of the lengths of theirmajor semi-axes. Wewrite down an explicit formula as an integral over Sn−1, use the formula to derive convexity properties of the surface area, to sharpen the estimates given [6], to produce asymptotic formulas in large dimensions, and to give an expression for the surface in terms of the Lauricella ...

We consider the problem of estimating the surface area of an unknown n-dimensional set F given membership oracle access. In contrast to previous work, we do not assume that F is convex, and in fact make no assumptions at all about F . By necessity this means that we work in the property testing model; we seek an algorithm which, given parameters A and , satisfies: • if surf(F ) ≤ A then the alg...

We successfully prepared one-dimensional ZnO-ZnFe2O4 (ZFO) heterostructures for acetone gas-sensing and photoelectrochemical applications, by using sputter deposition of ZFO crystallites on ZnO nanostructure templates. The nanoscale ZFO crystallites were homogeneously coated on the surfaces of the ZnO nanostructures. Electron microscope images revealed that the ZnO-ZFO heterostructures exhibite...

The surface area of a photonic crystal biosensor is greatly enhanced through the incorporation of a porous TiO2 film possessing the structure of nanorods into the device. The film is deposited by the glancing angle deposition technique in an e-beam evaporation system. The sensitivity of high surface area sensors is compared with sensors without the high surface area coating. Results for detecti...
