The title compound, C(24)H(34)O(8), a natural ent-kaurane diterpenoid, is composed of four rings with the expected cis and trans junctions. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In addition, an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond occurs.

Four ent-kaurane diterpenoid glycosides, cussovantosides A-D, were isolated from the dried leaves of Cussonia vantsilana Baker, together with six known compounds. The structures of the compounds were deduced on the basis of their physical and spectral data.

A new ent-kaurane diterpene glycoside identified as (-)19-beta-D-glucopyranosyl 6,7-dihydroxy kaurenoate, was isolated from the seeds of Pithecellobium albicans. The structure of the new compound was established by spectral data.
