Thirty-two isolates of Fusarium from Hawaiian Acacia koa exhibiting wilt/dieback disease symptoms were compared for their pathogenic potential on young Douglas-fir germinants in controlled laboratory tests. Only three isolates (one each of F. oxysporum, F. solani, and F. subglutinans) exhibited low virulence. All others, including isolates of F. semitectum and F. equiseti, were non-pathogenic. ...

Among 237 cases of condyloma diagnosed in Uganda between 1964 and 1975 seven types of lesions were defined. Three of these were found within a wide age range in both young and elderly people, namely, the common (49.4%) and the flat (2.0%) condyloma acuminatum, and condyloma acuminatum of irregular outline (13.5%). Four variants, on the other hand, fell into different age groups. Condyloma acumi...

INTRODUCTION Giant condyloma acuminatum, also called a Buschke-Löwenstein tumor, first described in 1925, is a slow-growing, locally aggressive, destructive tumor of the ano-genital region. Scrotal tumors are rare. Reports on giant condyloma acuminatum lesions in patients with HIV and AIDS are surprisingly even rarer. CASE PRESENTATION In this report, we present the case of a 42-year-old Afri...

AIM To develop a method for conducting pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) on Flavobacterium columnare, to use PFGE to characterize F. columnare channel catfish isolates, and to determine whether variation in pathogenic potential exists in F. columnare isolates from channel catfish. METHODS AND RESULTS On the basis of PFGE-derived profiles, similarity dendrograms constructed for more than...

OBJECTIVES The global increase in ESBL-producing Escherichia coli is associated with the ST131 clonal group, especially its CTX-M-15-producing H30Rx subset. To understand the rapid spread of ESBL-producing E. coli in Japan, we investigated the molecular epidemiology and ESBL-associated genetic environments of Japanese ST131 isolates. METHODS Between 2001 and 2012, 1079 ESBL-producing E. coli ...

Francisella tularensis, the etiologic agent of tularemia and a Class A Select Agent, is divided into three subspecies and multiple subpopulations that differ in virulence and geographic distribution. Given these differences, there is a need to rapidly and accurately determine if a strain is F. tularensis and, if it is, assign it to subspecies and subpopulation. We designed TaqMan real-time PCR ...

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite markers were developed for Glochidion acuminatum (Phyllanthaceae) to investigate pollen dispersal distances and thereby to assess the effectiveness of specialized Epicephala moths as pollinators. • METHODS AND RESULTS Using next-generation sequencing, 11 polymorphic microsatellite primer pairs were developed for G. acuminatum. The primer pairs...

One hundred isolates of Fusarium solani species complex were isolated and identified from 58 agricultural soil samples collected from different geographical regions in Kermanshah, Hamadan and Kurdistan provinces of Iran. Based on morphological characteristics, Fusarium falciforme, F. petroliphilum, F. keratoplasticum and F. pseudensiforme, are reported for the first time from Iran.
