We present a model of fracture formation on surfaces of bilayered materials. The model makes it possible to synthesize patterns of fractures induced by growth or shrinkage of one layer with respect to another. We use the finite element method (FEM) to obtain numerical solutions. This paper improves the standard FEM with techniques needed to efficiently capture growth and fractures.

The present work shows the material flow analysis in indentation by the numerical two dimensional Finite Elements (FEM) method and the experimental two-dimensional Digital Image Correlation (DIC) method. To achieve deep indentation without cracking, a ductile material, 99% tin, is used. The results obtained from the DIC technique depend predominantly on the pattern conferred to the samples. Due...

An extended spectral domain approach (ESDA) is applied to evaluate the scattering parameter of laterally slotted coaxial antenna for hyperthermia treatment. The results calculated by ESDA are in good agreement with that by Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation. Computational labor of the present method is far lighter than that of FEM, and the method is suitable for the iterative computation th...

To assess and optimise the effect of multi-layered trim for the reduction of noise and vibration transmission, design engineers greatly depend on CAE tools. Mostly, these are based on element based simulation techniques such as the Finite Element Method (FEM). In practise, however, these methods are limited to low-frequency simulations due to the strongly increasing computational cost with freq...

The partition of unity is an essential ingredient for meshless methods named by GFEM, PUFEM (partition of unity FEM), XFEM(extended FEM), RKPM(reproducing kernel particle method), RPPM(reproducing polynomial particle method), the method of clouds in the literature. There are two popular choices for partition of unity: a piecewise linear FEM mesh and the Shepard-type partition of unity. However,...

This paper is concerned with a numerical method for multiscale elliptic problems. Using the framework of the Heterogeneous Multiscale Methods (HMM), we propose a micro-macro approache which combines finite element method (FEM) for the macroscopic solver and the pseudospectral method for the micro solver. Unlike the micro-macro methods based on standard FEM proposed so far in HMM we obtain, for ...

A methodology to model arbitrary holes and material interfaces (inclusions) without meshing the internal boundaries is proposed. The numerical method couples the level set method (Osher and Sethian, 1988) to the eXtended Finite Element Method (X-FEM) (Mo es et al., 1999). In the X-FEM, the nite element approximation is enriched by additional functions through the notion of partition of unity. T...

Biosimulations employ Finite Element Method (FEM) to simulate complex biological systems in order to understand different aspects of human organs. The applications of FEM biosimulations range from human ear cochlear mechanics, cardiovascular, to neurovascular research. Performing these large Finite Element (FE) simulations, comparison and analysis of multiple simulation experiment results, and ...
