Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is an efficient algorithm to compute the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and its inverse. In this paper, we pay special attention to the description of complex-data FFT. We analyze two common descriptions of FFT and propose a new presentation. Our heuristic description is helpful for students and programmers to grasp the algorithm entirely and deeply.

A block floating-point (BFP) implementation provides an innovative method of floating-point emulation on a fixed-point processor. This application report implements the BFP algorithm for the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm on a Texas Instruments (TI) TMS320C55x DSP by taking advantage of the CPU exponent encoder. The BFP algorithm as it applies to the FFT allows signal gain adjustment i...

The fast Fourier transform (FFT) is the cornerstone of many supercomputer applications and therefore needs careful performance tuning. Most often, however, the real performance of the FFT implementations is far below the acceptable gures. In this paper, we explore several strategies for performance optimisations of the FFT computation , such as enhancing instruction-level parallelism, loop merg...

A multiple sequence alignment program, MAFFT, has been developed. The CPU time is drastically reduced as compared with existing methods. MAFFT includes two novel techniques. (i) Homo logous regions are rapidly identified by the fast Fourier transform (FFT), in which an amino acid sequence is converted to a sequence composed of volume and polarity values of each amino acid residue. (ii) We propo...

This document describes a FPGA implementation and simulation of the FFT component of the IIP Radiometer RFI processor described in [1]. The FFT processor will ideally be capable of processing 100% of the input bandwidth (100 MSPS.) The chosen FFT length (1024) is a trade off of FFT bin width (approximately 100kHz) and possible RFI detection. This document describes a possible implementation in ...

Multiple Input Multiple Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing technology is an advanced transmission technique for wireless communication systems. In this paper, the 64 point pipeline FFT/IFFT processor is introduced for efficient implementation of OFDM architecture. The IFFT processor is used to modulate the subcarrier in transmitter section and FFT processor demodulate the subcarr...

The FFT is commonly used essential tool in digital signal processing applications .The adders used in Conventional Fast Fourier transform(FFT) are no longer appropriate for the reason that of its degraded rapidity concert. There are many dissimilar kinds of fast adders such as Carry Select Adder, Carry Save Adder and Carry Look Ahead Adder have been used for Fast Fourier Transform. However, the...

This tutorial paper describes the methods for constructing fast algorithms for the computation of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of a real-valued series. The application of these ideas to all the major fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithms is discussed, and the various algorithms are compared. We present a new implementation of the real-valued split-radix FFT, an algorithm that uses few...

In this work, we propose parallel FFT algorithms, for medium-to-coarse grain hypercubeconnected multicomputers, which are more elegant and efficient than the existing ones. The proposed algorithms achieve perfect load-balance for the efficient simplified-butterfly scheme, minimize the communication overhead by decreasing both the number and the volume of concurrent communications. Communication...

The DFT usually arises as an approximation to the continuous Fourier transform when functions are sampled at discrete intervals in space or time. The naive evaluation of the discrete Fourier transform is a matrix-vector multiplication W~g, and would take O(N) operations for N data-points. The general principle of the Fast Fourier Transform algorithms is to use a divide-and-conquer strategy to f...
