Primary thyroid lymphomas (PTL) are extremely uncommon neoplasms accounting for 5% of all thyroid malignancies. There are very few small series and occasional case reports of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of PTL in literature. We present an interesting and rare case of PTL diagnosed on FNAC. FNAC is an important tool in the diagnosis of thyroid lymphoma. Journal of Cytology 2007; 24 (3...

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration is a multistep procedure that involves proper clinical indication, correct selection of needles, adapting evidence-based techniques such as the fanning maneuver and not routinely using suction or the stylet for tissue sampling, and establishing reliable cytopathology support. Integrating cytopathology in the training curriculum and developing ...

BACKGROUND Patients with pathological tissue mass in thoracic cage found with imaging require histopathological or cytological confirmation of malignancy before treatment. The tissue material essential for patomorphological evaluation can be acquired with fine-needle aspiration biopsies (FNAB) controlled with CT and core-needle biopsy (CNB) under real-time CT fluoroscopy guidance. The purpose o...

Primary extradural meningiomas presenting as scalp swelling is uncommon. Their diagnosis by fine needle aspiration is rare as majority of the lesions are hyperostotic. Primary intraosseus meningiomas involving the skull constitute only about 2% of meningiomas and are often mistaken for other primary or secondary bone tumors. The authors report a case of primary calvarial meningioma involving th...

Objective. To determine the role of imaging-cytology correlation in reducing false negative results of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) at thyroid nodules. Methods. This retrospective study included 667 nodules 1 cm or larger in 649 patients diagnosed as benign at initial cytologic evaluation and that underwent follow-up ultrasound (US) or FNA following a radiologist's opinion on concordance betwee...

We describe a case of an 82-yr-old woman presenting with a thyroid nodule and axillary mass thought to be a metastasis. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) revealed the axillary nodule to be a chondroid syringoma. We report here the cytologic features of chondroid syringoma and recommend the use of FNA in the evaluation of cutaneous and subcutaneous lesions in general.

This paper describes the results of transproctoscopic fine needle aspiration cytology in the diagnosis of rectal lesions. Fifty one consecutive patients referred with a presumptive diagnosis of rectal mass were subjected to proctoscopic examination when fine needle aspiration cytology, brush cytology and biopsy samples were taken. Of the 30 patients of malignancy of rectum in whom all the three...

OBJECTIVE To compare the diagnostic rate, patient comfort, and complications of ultrasonography-guided breast biopsy using a modified coaxial technique with ultrasonography-guided fine needle aspiration and traditional core biopsy. A secondary objective was to describe the use of the coaxial technique for the biopsy of breast lesions and our initial experience. DESIGN Retrospective study. S...
