We use the Surface Evolver to determine the shear modulus G of a dry 2D foam of 2500 bubbles, using both extensional and simple shear. We examine G for a range of monodisperse, bidisperse and polydisperse foams, and relate it to various measures of the structural disorder of each foam. In all cases, the shear modulus of a foam decreases with increasing disorder.

The use of X-ray radioscopy for in-situ studies of metal foam formation and evolution is reviewed. Selected results demonstrate the power of X-ray radioscopy as diagnostic tool for metal foaming. Qualitative analyses of foam nucleation and evolution, drainage development, issues of thermal contact, mold filling, cell wall rupture and more are given. Additionally, quantitative analyses based on ...

BACKGROUND Tazarotene foam is the first topical retinoid foam approved for the treatment of acne vulgaris. OBJECTIVE To review the safety and efficacy studies of tazarotene foam in the treatment of moderate to severe acne. METHODS Five Phase I safety studies in normal controls are reviewed and two Phase III safety and efficacy studies in patients with moderate to severe acne are reviewed. ...

A foam-like graphene material can be prepared by freeze drying and thermal reduction of graphene oxide suspensions. The graphene foam has a much higher capacity then conventional graphite anode, and it possesses better rate capability comparing with powderlike graphene active materials reported previously. The influence of the annealing temperature on the charge-discharge performance of graphen...

A simple rheological model has been used to describe foam flow through moving textile assemblies. The validity of this model was tested, and the nature and the relative magnitude of deviations from the model evaluated for several different substrates. Neglecting foam degeneration during transport, the model was found to represent a valuable means of evaluating some rheological and geometrical d...

We study the dynamical behavior of a large bubble embedded in the plug flow of an ordered two-dimensional foam. At a critical velocity, the foam structure becomes instable and the large bubble migrates through the foam faster than the mean flow. This size segregation is due to viscous effects and happens only for flow velocities larger than a given threshold. We present analytical and numerical...

The ability of foam to control the gas mobility in porous media is determined in part by the trapped (stationary) fraction of foam, Xt. The common approach to determining Xt is to replace some part of the gas by a “tracer gas” during the steady-state stage of the experiments and fitting the effluent data to a capacitance mass-transfer model. Diffusion between bubbles is quantified by the film p...

This review gives an overview of the current knowledge concerning the problem of foam formation in the process of anaerobic digestion in biogas plants that utilize renewable resources or biogenic waste material for biogas production. Process upsets in biogas production induced by foam formation can have a negative impact on the efficiency of biogas plants. The foam can block gas pipes and cause...

Foam glass aggregate is produced in a controlled production process. Due to its low density and thermal conductivity foam glass aggregate offers a broad variety of applications. Based on extensive laboratory tests foam glass aggregate is investigated in the scope of a joint research project performed at Vienna University of Technology and University of Innsbruck. The mechanical properties of si...

Foamed materials are increasingly finding application in engineering systems on account of their unique properties. The basic mechanics which gives rise to these properties is well established, they are the result of collapsing the foam microstructure. Despite a basic understanding, the relationship between the details of foam microstructure and foam bulk response is generally unknown. With con...
