Introduction Case Report Discussion References Abstract A case of 28-year-old man with closed fracture dislocation of the radial head following a fall from height is reported. He was treated with radial head excision. The radial head is an important stabilizer of the elbow, thus the rationale of radial head excision in management of radial head fractures should be scrutinized. There is much deb...

High velocity accidents can lead to major injuries - long bone fractures, abdominal trauma, pelvic fractures and chest injuries. These injuries can act as distracting factors during the initial assessment of a polytrauma patient and innocuous but significant smaller injuries can be missed. We present a rare case of isolated anterolateral radial head dislocation in a polytrauma patient.

BACKGROUND A compartment syndrome is a condition in which high pressure within a closed fascial space causes reduced blood flow with nerve and muscle ischaemia. Untreated compartment syndrome leads to ischaemia with necrosis, contractures, myofibrosis and irreversible functional impairment in the involved part of the limb. Calcaneal fractures and other kinds of foot trauma may cause acute compa...

Anterior shoulder dislocations are commonly associated with humeral greater tuberosity fractures (w16% of cases), which include Hill-Sachs lesions. The second most common fracture associated with an anterior shoulder dislocation is a fracture of the anterior glenoid (i.e., bony Bankart lesion). By comparison, a coracoid fracture occurring in association with an anterior shoulder dislocation is ...

The major cause of hip dislocations is motor vehicle collisions. A great deal of force is required to dislocate a hip, and thus associated injuries are common. Up to 88% of hip dislocations will be accompanied by an associated fracture. Patients with hip dislocations have about a 25% risk for osteoarthritis and a 20% risk for avascular necrosis. In addition, sciatic nerve injuries occur in appr...

We describe two patients with diabetes mellitus and associated neuropathy, who presented with painless foot swelling and no history of trauma. X-Rays revealed recent underlying fractures-in one of a metatarsus, and the other of a proximal phalanx. These were assumed to be 'stress' fractures unassociated with pain because of the severe sensory neuropathy. Though spontaneous fractures in neuropat...

The relationship between the bone mineral density (BMD) and Charcot arthropathy is unclear. Prospectively, 55 consecutive diabetic patients presenting with a Charcot arthropathy of the foot or ankle were classified as having a fracture, dislocation, or a combination fracture-dislocation pattern of initial destruction. In these groups we used dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry to compare the perip...
