A molecular beam Fourier transform microwave spectrometer, designed for the study of chemical reactions within electrical discharges, is described in detail. Applications include the production of carbonyl fluoride, ketene, acetic acid, and difluorocarbene. For the production of carbonyl fluoride and ketene with 1,1-difluoroethylene and carbon dioxide as precursor molecules a reaction path via ...
The synthesis of polynorbornene by ring opening metathesis polymerizations (ROMP) in the presence of 2 nd generation Grubbs catalyst-functionalized nanotube initiators, is reported. A full characterization of Grubbs catalyst-functionalized nanotubes was performed by FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) and TG-DTGMS (Thermogravimetrical Analysis coupled with Mass Spectrometer), in orde...
5,8-Didehydroisoquinolinium ion, a para benzyne analogue, was generated in a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer, and its reactivity toward various neutral reagents was examined. A direct comparison of the reaction kinetics of the para benzyne, a meta isomer, and analogous monoradicals, indicates that the para benzyne is a poorer electrophile but a more reactive radical ...
By use of coherent terahertz synchrotron radiation, we experimentally tested a holographic Fourier transform spectrometer coupled to an array detector to determine its viability as a spectral device. Somewhat surprisingly, the overall performance strongly depends on the absorptivity of the birefringent lithium tantalate pixels in the array detector.
Fourier Transform spectrometry has been applied to nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR). This increases the sensitivity and avoids the creation of side-bands produced by the usual superregenerative spectrometer. It provides also the possibility of determining the true spectral line-width and studying the fine structure of NQR spectral lines.
The density of the metastable He atoms in the positive column of a glow discharge is determined using two techniques involving a Fourier Transform spectrometer. The techniques are the traditional self-absorption method and the newly reported Doppler shift technique. The two results agree well within the experimental errors.
Two common bacteria, Streptococcus pyogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, were differentiated based on their volatile metabolic waste products. The bacteria were cultured in a closed system and the headspace above the culture medium were collected, preconcentrated, and analyzed using a gas chromatography Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer (GC/FT-ICR MS).
A method to extract digital elevation models of the ground from the images of an airborne Fourier transform spectrometer is presented. Such information allows to construct accurate interferograms in non-flat areas, where they are otherwise flawed. OCIS codes: (100.3190) Inverse problems; (100.4145) Motion, hyperspectral image processing.
ACE is a Canadian satellite mission that will measure and help to understand the chemical and dynamical processes that control the distribution of ozone in the stratosphere. The ACE instruments are a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, a UV/visible/near IR spectrograph and a two channel solar imager, all working in solar occultation mode.
In order to be able to study complex biological samples, a micro-capillary liquid chromatography system was coupled to a 9.4 T Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer. The setup was tested on a tryptic digest of bovine serum albumin, which resulted in high sequence coverage (> 92%) of the protein.
