From recent findings concerning free radical injury in several types of amyloidosis, it appears that free radical injury is involved either amyloid formation or in post-fibrillar modification. As we show in this review, among the more than 20 different types of amyloidosis, only a few types of amyloidosis present direct evidence of free radical involvement in amyloid formation. However, if we s...

in the present study the volatile organic compounds of e. azerbaijanica rech.f. were identified. phytochemical assessment of meoh extract of aerial parts of this plant was also performed and its free radical scavenging properties was evaluated. the essential oil of the air-dried aerial parts was obtained by hydro-distillation using a clevenger type apparatus. the oil was then analyzed by gas ch...

The free-radical chemistry of sulfite oxidation is reviewed. Chemical transformations of organic and biological molecules induced by sulfite oxidation are summarized. The kinetics of the free-radical oxidations of sulfite are discussed, as are the kinetics of the reactions of the sulfite-derived radicals SO3 and the peroxy derivative SO5 with organic compounds.

Aging can be loosely defined as the accumulation of changes within an organism over time. Aging is a complex, poorly understood, and multi-factorial process. It is generally regarded as progressive, irreversible, deleterious, and endogenous in nature [1]. Over 300 scientific theories seeking to explain the specifics of the process of aging have been posited. Yet, despite the vast amount of rese...

Free radical production occurs continuously in all cells as part of normal cellular function. However, excess free radical production originating from endogenous or exogenous sources might play a role in many diseases. Antioxidants prevent free radical induced tissue damage by preventing the formation of radicals, scavenging them, or by promoting their decomposition. This article reviews the ba...

Scrophularia umbrosa is a medicinal plant used as a traditional herb. This study was designed to investigate the phytochemical analysis of methanol (MeOH), DCM, and n-Hexane extracts of rhizome as well as total phenol and total flavonoid contents (TPC and TFC). In-vitro β-hematin formation assay and DPPH method were applied for analyzing antimalarial and free-radical scavenging activities of th...

Dorema glabrum Fisch. & C.A. Mey. (Apiaceae) is a monocarpic perennial plant distributed in southern Caucasus. In Azerbaijan Republic folk medicine, the gum-resin of this species is used as a diuretic and anti-diarrheal agent. It is also traditionally used for the treatment of bronchitis and catarrh. In the present study, chemical constituents of the essential oil and extract of D. glabrum aeri...

The antioxidant activity of defatted ethanolic extract of the leaves of Blumea mollis were studied for its free radical scavenging property on different in vitro antioxidant models like DPPH radical, hydroxyl radical, nitric oxide radical scavenging activity, reducing power, superoxide anion radical scavenging activity were analyzed. The extract showed free radical scavenging property in dose-d...

Cellulose was modified by polystyrene (PS) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) via free radical and living radical polymerization, and then cellulose was used as the matrix in the preparation of polymer/clay nanocomposite, through a solution intercalation method. For this purpose, first, the graft polymerization of styrene (St) onto cellulose fibers was performed by using suspension polymerization and ...
