Sensing and signaling the presence of extracellular glucose is crucial for the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae because of its fermentative metabolism, characterized by high glucose flux through glycolysis. The yeast senses glucose through the cell surface glucose sensors Rgt2 and Snf3, which serve as glucose receptors that generate the signal for induction of genes involved in glucose uptake and...
We developed a minimally invasive glucose monitoring system that uses a microneedle to permeate the skin surface and a small hydrogel to accumulate interstitial fluid glucose. The measurement of glucose and sodium ion levels in the hydrogel is required for estimating glucose levels in blood; therefore, we developed a small, enzyme-fixed glucose sensor with a high-selectivity, all-solid-state, s...
BACKGROUND Continuous glucose monitoring for patients with diabetes is of paramount importance to avoid severe health conditions resulting from hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. Most available methods require an invasive setup and a health care professional. Handheld devices available on the market also require finger pricking for every measurement and do not provide continuous monitoring. Hence, ...
Nowadays sensors and especially biosensors play an important role in medical diagnosis and detection of food and environment contaminations. Biosensors’ facilities have been improved significantly by using technologies such as surface plasmon resonance, microfluidics, laser, and electrochemistry. These technologies are now available on chips in micro- and nano-scale and are capable of mea...
Real-time continuous glucose monitoring and the insulin pump have been combined into the Sensor-Augmented Pump system (Medtronic MiniMed, Northridge, CA). This short-term pilot trial demonstrated that pediatric subjects with type I diabetes improved mean hemoglobin A1c (A1c) and glucose levels and reduced hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia using the Sensor-Augmented Pump system.
Herein, we demonstrate the fabrication of a robust enzymeless glucose sensor based on CuO nanoseeds (CNSs) synthesized at low-temperature. The as-fabricated sensor exhibited excellent electrocatalytic ability in a wide-linear range and was further employed for the glucose concentration determined in freshly drawn mice whole blood and serum samples.
INTRODUCTION Published evaluations of sensor glucose monitoring use in insulin treated type 2 diabetes are limited. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of flash glucose-sensing technology as a replacement for self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) over a 12-month period in participants with type 2 diabetes who were on intensive insulin therapy. METHODS An open-label, randomized, c...
A new outer layer composition, consisting of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), Kel-F oil, and Nafion, is suggested to minimize the detrimental effect of dissolved oxygen and to extend the linear response range of a glucose oxidase(GOx)-based sensor using nonconducting polymer. The morphology of Kel-F/PTFE/Kel-F/Nafion polymeric laminate was followed during fabrication by SEM. When Kel-F film was ...
AIMS To compare overnight closed-loop and sensor-augmented pump therapy in patients with type 1 diabetes by combining data collected during free-living unsupervised randomized crossover home studies. METHODS A total of 40 participants with type 1 diabetes, of whom 24 were adults [mean ± standard deviation (s.d.) age 43 ± 12 years and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) 8.0 ± 0.9%] and 16 were adoles...
OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the performance and acceptability of the Enlite(®) glucose sensor (Medtronic MiniMed, Inc., Northridge, CA). SUBJECTS AND METHODS Ninety adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes wore two Enlite sensors on the abdomen and/or buttock for 6 days and calibrated them at different frequencies. On Days 1, 3, and 6, accuracy was evaluated by comparison of sensor glucose va...
