BACKGROUND In the natural and prosthetic knees the position, shape, and orientation of the trochlea groove are three of the key determinants of function and dysfunction, yet the rules governing these three features remain elusive. QUESTIONS/PURPOSE The aim was to define the three-dimensional geometry of the femoral trochlea and its relation to the tibiofemoral joint in terms of angles and dis...

BACKGROUND Complete cast crowns are good alternatives and have best longevity for the restoration of damaged posterior teeth. Occasionally, a crown with clinically acceptable margins, preparation design, and occlusion becomes loose. Providers often debate whether such a crown can be successfully recemented with any degree of confidence that it will not be dislodged under normal masticatory func...

Friction stir processing was applied for fabricating an aluminum alloy based hybrid nano composite reinforced with nano sized Al2O3 and micro sized graphite particles. A mixture of Al2O3 and graphite particles was packed into a groove with 1 mm width and 4.5 mm depth, which had been cut in 5083 aluminum plate of 10 mm thick. Packed groove was subjected to friction stir processing in order to im...

DNase I binds in the minor groove of DNA and is used as an enzymatic tool to investigate the interaction of proteins with DNA. Here we show that the major groove located 5-methyldeoxycytidine can enhance or inhibit the cleavage rates of DNA by DNase I. This effect may be caused in part by changes in DNA structure affecting the accessibility of the minor groove of DNA to DNase I.

■ The dimensions of the bicipital groove vary along its mean 5-cm length. At its entrance, the width ranges from 9 to 12 mm, and the depth is about 2.2 mm. In its midportion, the groove narrows to a mean width of 6.2 mm, whereas its depth remains comparable at approximately 2.4 mm. This considerable groove narrowing may contribute to entrapment of a hypertrophic intra-articular component, refer...

Tetraloop-receptor interactions are prevalent structural units in RNAs, and include the GAAA/11-nt and GNRA-minor groove interactions. In this study, we have compiled a set of 78 nonredundant loop-helix interactions from X-ray crystal structures, and examined them for the extent of their sequence and structural variation. Of the 78 interactions in the set, only four were classical GAAA/11-nt mo...
