This is a summary of the winter wheat production conditions in southeast Kansas 2021-2022 and results variety testing. Wheat 2022 benefited from dry at flowering harvest. Overall yields hard red were above multi-year averages, while soft below 15-year average. As previous years, out-yielded varieties, but extent was not as dramatic years.

Hard red winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.; HRWW) is broadly grown in Great Plains and northwestern states the United States. Knowing how quality characteristics are correlated across space may help buyers locate grain elevators that have with they need. The objective of this study was to determine spatial pattern factors HRWW. Mixed effects regression modeling used estimate mean for each loca...

Information on genetic diversity and population structure of elite wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) breeding lines promotes effective use of genetic resources. We analyzed 205 elite wheat breeding lines from major winter wheat breeding programs in the USA using 245 markers across the wheat genomes. This collection showed a high level of genetic diversity as refl ected by allele number per locus (7....

This issue of Diabetes Care contains an article by Jenkins et al. (1) with a surpris ing, perhaps counterintuitive result. The authors studied 23 type 2 diabetic volunteers in a randomized cross-over design with 3 months consumption of wheat bran contributing 19 g fiber per day, compared with 3 months consumption of refined grain with 4 g fiber per day. The wheat bran supplement had no discerni...

We investigated weight loss caused by Liposcelis entomophila (Enderlein) feeding in damaged (cracked) and intact kernels of 'Jagger' variety of hard red winter wheat over a 90-d period at 30 +/- 1 degrees C and 75 +/- 5% relative humidity. L. entomophila caused 8.5% weight loss in damaged wheat kernels, which was significantly greater than the weight loss found in intact wheat kernels (0.2%). W...
