THIS case is not reported as a rarity, for haemopericardium is not infrequent as the immediate cause of death in aneurysm of the ascending arch of the aorta; but it may be of some interest as an example of the sudden fatal termination so often seen in cardio-vascular syphilis. The subject was a male in middle adult life. His exact age was not ascertainable. The only clinical history available w...
Simultaneous recording of the electrocardiogram and of the pressure transmitted through the drainage needle in patients with haemopericardium provided confirmation that the needle tip was in the pericardial cavity. Proper position was indicated by a positive pressure wave beginning before the QRS complex, reaching its maximum value in the first part of the ST segment and ending with the T wave....
Constrictive pericarditis developed in a 55 year old man two years after transmural myocardial infarction complicated by severe acute pericarditis. Pericardiectomy was successful. Although this very rare late complication of myocardial infarction has been reported as a sequela of frank anticoagulant induced haemopericardium, in this case there was no clinical evidence of such an association.
Cardiac tumors are uncommon in neonates and most of them are histologically benign. The most common cardiac tumor in neonates and infants is rhabdomyoma. Malignant cardiac tumors are considerably rarer, and rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the leading malignancy. To our knowledge, only one case of intrapericardial RMS was reported in the literature, in a seven-month-old baby. Here we present another n...
Metanephric adenoma (MA) is a rare neoplasm that acounts for 0.2% of adult renal neoplasms. MAs are typically discover incidentally during detailed examinations for nonspecific symptoms such as abdominal or flank pain, hematuria, fever and palpable abdominal mass. Additionally, polycythemia has occasionally been reported as well. Herein we describe a case of metanephric adenoma which was an inc...
Left ventricular free wall rupture (LVFWR) is one of the most lethal complications following myocardial infarction. It accounts for approximately 12% to 21% of all in-hospital deaths following myocardial infarction. The majority of patients die shortly after LVFWR from instantaneous pericardial tamponade and hemodynamic collapse. However, up to one-third of cases are subacute in nature, allowin...
The effects of hydralazine on aortic rupture, hemodynamics and aortic ultrastructure were studied in turkeys fed B-aminopropionitrile (BAPN). A mortality rate of 24% due to hemopericardium and internal hemorrhage in turkeys fed only BAPN increased to 91% when turkeys were fed both BAPN and hydralazine, despite a significant reduction in blood pressure after both drugs. Death rates among turkeys...
Several fetal cardiac malformations have been increasingly treated before birth. Fetal cardiac intervention targets an in utero correction of simple intracardiac abnormalities that potentially progress to complex heart diseases in utero, such as fetal critical aortic stenosis that might cause to hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) and HLHS with restrictive atrial septum leading to irreversib...
