MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, regulatory non-coding RNAs that have potent effects on gene expression. Several miRNA are deregulated in cellular processes involved in human liver diseases and regulation of cellular processes. Recent studies have identified the involvement of miR-29 in hepatic fibrosis and carcinogenesis. Although several targets of miR-29 have been identified, there is limited i...
Hydatid cysts is most often characterized by hepatic and pulmonary involvement, but it also rarely involves other body parts and systems. Axillary involvement by hydatid cysts is considerably rare in countries with endemic hydatid cyst manifestation, and cases from countries like Turkey are still widely reported. A young woman aged 24 years was seen at our clinic for a painful axillary mass. Sh...
Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) was defined as a complex neuropsychiatric syndrome triggered by severe liver pathology and manifesting covert overt alterations up to hepatic coma death [1]. Acute failure (ALF) results in acute (AHE) characterized brain edema caused mechanisms closely linked ammonia toxicity [2]. Astrocytes are central cells the most sensitive being primarily source of glutamine syn...
Hepatic amyloidosis is a rare disease that presents as an infiltrative disease involving liver. Amyloidosis is a systemic disease characterized by the extracellular deposition of amyloid protein in many organs. Progressive organ involvement leads to organ malfunction and death usually resulting from renal and/or cardiac involvement. Liver and spleen are major sites of involvement. The wide rang...
A case of isolated hepatic tuberculosis with tubercular involvement of the overlying skin is described. The combination does not appear to have been previously described.
a long-standing debate among the vocabulary researchers is the depth of processing to learn vocabulary. this paper is a quantitative research which considers a revision in the “involvement load hypothesis” proposed by laufer and hulstijn in 2001. it investigates the role of proficiency and evaluation in this hypothesis in order to better reveal its potential contribution to vocabulary learning....
INTRODUCTION Sarcoidosis is a chronic systemic disease of unknown etiology, characterized by non-caseating granulmas. Although lungs are involved in more than 90% of patients, extrapulmonary involvement is common (1). All organs, especially lymph nodes, liver, skin and eyes may be involved. Abdominal lymphadenopathy due to sarcoidosis has rarely been described and is usually associated with hep...
although gastrointestinal bleeding is common, hemobilia due to the rupture of hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm is uncommon. we report a case of hemobilia which was successfully treated via angiography.
Amebiasis is typically an infection of the colon by the protozoan, Endamoeba histolytica. It may be acute or chronic and presents a varied clinical course. The most frequent symptom is diarrhea with small amounts of blood-streaked mucus, but stubborn constipation is not unusual. Often, constipation may alternate with diarrhea accompanied by tenesmus, lassitude, and a generalized vague abdominal...
We report the case of a young woman with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) with severe liver involvement and pulmonary shunting. The medical imaging in this patient illustrates the severe shunting that can occur in these patients who often are asymptomatic. By showing this case, we want to highlight the role of liver transplantation in HHT with hepatic involvement.
