Tagging amplicons with tag sequences appended to PCR primers allow the multiplexing of numerous samples for high-throughput sequencing (HTS). This approach is routinely used in HTS-based diversity analyses, especially in microbial ecology and biomedical diagnostics. However, amplicon library preparation is subject to pervasive sample sequence cross-contaminations as a result of tag switching ev...

This work proposes a novel approach to out-of-vocabulary (OOV) keyword search (KWS) task. The proposed approach is based on using high-level features from an automatic speech recognition (ASR) system, so called phoneme posterior based (PPB) features, for decoding. These features are obtained by calculating time-dependent phoneme posterior probabilities from word lattices, followed by their smoo...

In this talk, we will introduce high accurate numerical schemes for solving forward backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) with jumps. In these schemes, the simplest Euler scheme with only one jump is used to solve the forward stochastic differential equation (SDE), and multistep schemes is used to solve the backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) with high convergence rat...

changes during shrinkage, aquaporin activity and/or changes in the vapor phase transport. The application of models calibrated with anatomy will be an essential approach to determining the drivers of K ox decline. Finally, speculation that K ox decline may protect the xylem in the leaf and throughout the rest of the plant from tensions that induce embolism needs to be validated using models and...

The measurement of modulation transfer functions (MTFs) in computed tomography (CT) is often performed by scanning a point source phantom such as a thin wire or a microbead. In these methods the region of interest (ROI) is generally placed on the scanned image to crop the point source response. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of ROI size on MTF measurement, and to optimiz...

We present a structured lighting system for creating highresolution stereo datasets of static indoor scenes with highly accurate ground-truth disparities. The system includes novel techniques for efficient 2D subpixel correspondence search and self-calibration of cameras and projectors with modeling of lens distortion. Combining disparity estimates from multiple projector positions we are able ...

We report an accurate distance of d = 10 ± 2.5 kpc to the high-velocity cloud Complex C. Using high signal-to-noise Keck/HIRES spectra of two horizontal-branch stars, we have detected Ca II K absorption lines from the cloud. Significant non-detections towards a further 3 stars yield robust lower distance limits.

Introduction Load-carrying capacity of gears, especially the surface durability, is influenced by their tooth surface roughness in addition to their tooth profiles and tooth traces (Refs. 1 and 2). The harder the gears are, the smoother their tooth surfaces and the more accurately their tooth profiles should be finished in order to obtain high load-carrying capacity. Through research, the relat...

This paper analyzes well-posedness and stability of a conjugate heat transfer problem in one space dimension. We study a model problem for heat transfer between a fluid and a solid. The energy method is used to derive boundary and interface conditions that make the continuous problem well-posed and the semi-discrete problem stable. The numerical scheme is implemented using 2nd, 3rd and 4th orde...

The primary goal of cluster analysis is to produce clusters that accurately reflect the natural groupings in the data. A second objective that is important for high-dimensional data is to identify features that are descriptive of the clusters. In addition to these requirements, we often wish to allow objects to be associated with more than one cluster. In this paper we present a technique, base...
