The syntheses, magnetochemistry and crystallography of [Fe(L1)2]I0.5[I3]1.5 (1), [Fe(L1)2][Co(C2B9H11)2]2 (2) and [Fe(L2)2][SbF6]2 (3) (L1 = 2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine; L2 = 2,6-di(3-methylpyrazol-1-yl)pyridine) are described. Compounds 1 and 3 are high-spin between 5-300 K. For 1, this reflects a novel variation of an angular Jahn-Teller distortion at the iron centre, which traps the molecul...

The ground state properties of the high spin Heisenberg chains with alternating single site anisotropy are investigated by means of the numerical exact daigonaization and DMRGmethod. It is found that the ferrimagnetic state appears between the Haldane phase and period doubled Néel phase for the integer spin chains. On the other hand, the transition from the TomonagaLuttinger liquid state into t...

We describe the investigation of high-spin states in 24Mg populated with the 12C(16O, α)24Mg reaction at 62and 68-MeV beam energy. The excited states were established through the coincident detection of up to four α and γ particles in complete decay cascades toward a final state of angular momentum zero, the ground state of either 20Ne or 16O. We describe a new analysis method for the angular c...

We show electric field control of the spin accumulation at the interface of the oxide semiconductor Nb-SrTiO_{3} with Co/AlO_{x} spin injection contacts at room temperature. The in-plane spin lifetime τ_{∥}, as well as the ratio of the out-of-plane to in-plane spin lifetime τ_{⊥}/τ_{∥}, is manipulated by the built-in electric field at the semiconductor surface, without any additional gate conta...

Structural transitions in high spin states of deformed odd Z proton emitters Ho and Eu are studied in a theoretical framework using the deformed Nilsson potential and Strutinsky’s prescription combined with statistical theory of hot rotating nuclei. These proton emitters are found to exhibit shape transition to a rare prolate non-collective shape phase in excited high spin state which is caused...

Theoretical predictions show that depending on the populations of the Fe 3dxy, 3dxz, and 3dyz orbitals two possible quintet states can exist for the high-spin state of the photoswitchable model system [Fe(terpy)2] . The differences in the structure and molecular properties of these B2 and E quintets are very small and pose a substantial challenge for experiments to resolve them. Yet for a bette...

Theoretical predictions show that depending on the populations of the Fe 3d xy , 3d xz , and 3d yz orbitals two possible quintet states can exist for the high-spin state of the photoswitchable model system [Fe(terpy)2]2+. The differences in the structure and molecular properties of these 5B2 and 5E quintets are very small and pose a substantial challenge for experiments to resolve them. Yet for...

We trace the ultrafast dynamics of the spin density wave gap of the pnictide system BaFe2As2 probing resonantly with broadband multi-terahertz pulses. The photoexcitation in the low-temperature ground state leads to a fast suppression of the spin order followed by a slower recovery process. Surprisingly, in the normal state, we observe periodic oscillations of the spin density wave feature at a...

Introduction Magnetic resonance methods have a long and successful history in studying lipids in membranes because of the unique sensitivity of both spin label electron spin resonance (ESR) and solid state Nl\IR to membrane dynamics. Applications to peptides and proteins in membranes, although potentially extremely powerful, are still undergoing rapid development. The reason for this is, on the...

In our SERRS spectra of metmyoglobin by excitation at 514 nm, the peak at 1510 cm(-1), which is assigned to the 6-coordinated heme in the low spin state, was observed by the addition of imidazole and NaN3. Thus, the SERRS likely originates not from the non-native 5-coordinated heme, which is in the high spin state.
