BACKGROUND Marked hyperphosphatemia, hyperparathyroidism and 25-hydroxyvitamin D deficiency are associated with mortality in dialysis patients. Such data in chronic kidney disease stage 2-4 population are limited. It has been suggested that high-normal serum phosphate predicts worse renal and patient outcomes. The data regarding parathyroid hormone and outcomes in this population is limited. Th...
BACKGROUND Albuminuria is strongly associated with future risk for cardiovascular and kidney outcomes, and has been proposed to be included in the classification of chronic kidney disease (CKD) along with glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Few data are available on whether albuminuria is associated with concurrent complications of CKD. METHODS A cross-sectional analysis of 1,665 participants s...
Calciphylaxis is a challenging complication of end-stage renal disease, with an unknown underlying mechanism. Several risk factors have been identified, such as hyperphosphatemia, hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, low serum albumin levels, and history of warfarin therapy. This article presents a case of calciphylaxis provoked by reintroduction of warfarin therapy, introducing the possibility ...
Vitamin D3 (20 IU/100 g bw) was administered to the freshwater snake, Natrix piscator for 15 days. This treatment evokes hypercalcemia from day 3 to day 5. This response declines at day 10 and day 15. Vitamin D3 also induces hyperphosphatemia from day 5 till the end of the experiment (day 15).
