Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1), first described by Von Recklinghausen (1882), is an autosomal dominant disease caused a spectrum of mutations in NF-1 gene. We reported case giant facial neurofibromas 26 years old male patient without family history neurofibromatosis 1. Features typical neurofibroma, including enlarged nerve fascicle composed elongated nuclei and scant cytoplasmic cells, were i...

Suicide was initiated by several incisions in the skin; the resulting hypovolemia resulted in fatal hypothermia. The unusual autopsy findings in this case due to hypothermia were focal hemorrhages and necrosis of the pancreas and hemorrhagic infarction of the descendending colon. The pathophysiological relevance of the autopsy and histological findings are discussed.

Due to limited remote triage monitoring capabilities, combat medics cannot currently distinguish bleeding soldiers from those engaged in combat unless they have physical access to them. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that low-level physiological signals can be used to develop a machine-learning algorithm for tracking changes in central blood volume that will subsequently d...

BACKGROUND Whether during spontaneous breathing arterial pressure variations (APV) can detect a volume deficit is not established. We hypothesized that amplification of intra-thoracic pressure oscillations by breathing through resistors would enhance APV to allow identification of a reduced cardiac output (CO). This study tested that hypothesis in healthy volunteers exposed to central hypovolem...

Tolerance to central hypovolemia is highly variable, and accumulating evidence suggests that protection of anterior cerebral blood flow (CBF) is not an underlying mechanism. We hypothesized that individuals with high tolerance to central hypovolemia would exhibit protection of cerebral oxygenation (ScO2), and prolonged preservation of CBF in the posterior vs. anterior cerebral circulation. Eigh...

Adaptation to head-down-tilt bed rest leads to an apparent abnormality of baroreflex regulation of cardiac period. We hypothesized that this "deconditioning response" could primarily be a result of hypovolemia, rather than a unique adaptation of the autonomic nervous system to bed rest. To test this hypothesis, nine healthy subjects underwent 2 wk of -6 degrees head-down bed rest. One year late...

Cardiovascular variability reflects autonomic regulation of blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR). However, systolic BP (SBP) variability also may be induced by fluctuations in stroke volume through left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) variability via dynamic ventricular-arterial coupling during respiration. We hypothesized that dynamic ventricular-arterial coupling is modulated by...
