We consider self-similar solutions describing intermittent bursts in shell models of turbulence and study their relationship with blowup phenomena in continuous hydrodynamic models. First, we show that these solutions are very close to self-similar solution for the Fourier transformed inviscid Burgers equation corresponding to shock formation from smooth initial data. Then, the result is genera...
In this paper we consider both analytically and numerically several finite-dimensional approximations for the inviscid Burgers-Hopf equation. Fourier Galerkin truncation is introduced and studied as a simple one-dimensional model with intrinsic chaos and a well-defined mathematical structure allowing for an equilibrium statistical mechanics formalism. A simple scaling theory for correlations is...
in this paper, the modified simplest equation method is successfully implemented to find travelling wave solutions of the generalized forms $b(n,1)$ and $b(-n,1)$ of burgers equation.this method is direct, effective and easy to calculate, and it is a powerful mathematical tool for obtaining exact travelling wave solutions of the generalized forms $b(n,1)$ and $b(-n,1)$ of burgers equation and c...
The coupled viscous Burgers’ equation which was derived by Esipov in 1995 to study the model of poly-dispersive sedimentation. The system of coupled viscous Burgers’ equation is a simple model of sedimentation or evolution of scaled volume concentrations of two kinds of particles in fluid suspensions or colloids under the effect of gravity. Coupled Burgers’ equation can be written in the follow...
In this paper, an H-Galerkin mixed finite element method is discussed for the coupled Burgers equations. The optimal error estimates of the semi-discrete and fully discrete schemes of the coupled Burgers equation are derived. Keywords—The coupled Burgers equation; H-Galerkin mixed finite element method; Backward Euler’s method; Optimal error estimates.
We study a family of equations defined on the space of tensor densities of weight λ on the circle and introduce two integrable PDE. One of the equations turns out to be closely related to the inviscid Burgers equation while the other has not been identified in any form before. We present their Lax pair formulations and describe their bihamiltonian structures. We prove local wellposedness of the...
We report the first observation of Riemann (simple) waves, which play a crucial role for understanding the dynamics of any shock-bearing system. This was achieved by properly tailoring the phase of an ultrashort light pulse injected into a highly nonlinear fiber. Optical Riemann waves are found to evolve in excellent quantitative agreement with the remarkably simple inviscid Burgers equation, w...
Considering the Cauchy problem for the modified Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation ut + uxxx + ǫ|∂x| u = 2(u)x, u(0) = φ, where 0 < ǫ, α ≤ 1 and u is a real-valued function, we show that it is uniformly globally well-posed in Hs (s ≥ 1) for all ǫ ∈ (0, 1]. Moreover, we prove that for any s ≥ 1 and T > 0, its solution converges in C([0, T ]; Hs) to that of the MKdV equation if ǫ tends to 0.
The convergence of a class of finite volume schemes for a model of coupling between a Burgers fluid and a pointwise particle is proved. In this model, introduced by Lagoutière, Seguin and Takahashi in 2008, the particle is seen as a moving point through which an interface condition is imposed, which links the velocity of the fluid on the left and on the right of the particle and the velocity of...
