As the electricity industry in California undergoes a process of fundamental restructuring, important new products and markets will be created while others will lose signi cance. In this paper, we make an initial survey of the products and markets that will be prominent in the emerging new electricity industry. We describe approaches to analyzing the prospects for, and the impacts of, market po...
To solve the problem of solar abandoning, which is accompanied by the rapid development of photovoltaic (PV) power generation, a demonstration of a photovoltaic-battery energy storage system (PV-BESS) power plant has been constructed in Qinghai province in China. However, it is difficult for the PV-BESS power plant to survive and develop with the current electricity price mechanism and subsidy ...
Urbanization is an inevitable trend in historical development, but eco-environmental problems, including drinking water safety, have gradually become more and more outstanding during the process of rural urbanization. Ten districts in rural areas of Beijing, China were selected to study the effects of urbanization on drinking water quality. The relation between the urbanization index and drinki...
Renewable electricity development has taken different paths across countries. With few exceptions, the recent literature has focused on different policy frameworks for renewable energy development, for example, the differences between feed-in tariffs (FIT) and renewable portfolio standards (RPS). This study brings politics back in to the study of renewable energies. Feed-in tariffs, renewable p...
Deregulation was launched as a concept in the United States more than a decade ago; the European Union Commission has also formally announced that electric deregulation must be completed by the end of 2005. Deregulation or reform has already been a popular topic on the Electricity Power Sector. This paper will discuss the restructuring and regulatory reforms in the PR China’s power sector. It b...
In this paper we discuss second-generation electricity reforms being formulated in Latin America and how they are being reshaped by the California crisis, which had stood as a paradigm, at least in theory, for fully competitive markets. We argue that the main lesson policy makers in Latin America should draw from the experience in California and other electricity markets around the world is tha...
The deregulation of energy markets in general, and the electricity and gas markets in particular, over the last two decades has created a large number of new challenges and opportunities for companies in this sector, as well as for companies who might diversify into the sector. Thirty years back, there were few who believed or even discussed the possibility of a large-scale deregulation of the ...
A structural shift from transaction-based, marginal cost pricing to feebased service business models often accompanies the emergence of “platform” markets, i.e. multi-sided markets where an intermediary captures the value of the interaction between user groups. The many examples include telecommunications, data storage, cinema, music and media, and the automobile industry. Why not electricity? ...
The purpose of this study was to show how printed magazines affect the environment with their use of paper and how digital magazines affect their environment with their electricity use from servers hosting the digital magazines. It is also to find how the printed magazine industry is reducing their paper use and how digital magazines are reducing the amount of electricity used by servers hostin...
This paper considers the modelling of electricity forward curve dynamics with parameterized volatility and correlation structures. We estimate the model parameters by using the Nordic market’s price data and show how the model can be implemented into everyday industry practice.
