Patellofemoral disorders represent 20–40% of all knee problems and can be one of the most common complaints in sports related injuries. These disorders are a major cause of disability, particularly in females, and in extreme cases may contribute to termination of athlete’s career and could lead to degenerative arthritic changes of the knee joint. For these reasons, disorders and in particular p...

Foot drop resulting from subluxation of the superior tibio-fibular joint is described in a female dancer. Spontaneous resolution of the nerve injury occurred over two months with no residual joint instability. Expectant management is recommended for this injury. The potential for this unusual injury, in a wide variety of sports, is pointed out.

Background and Objectives: Among the foot orthoses prescribed to improve postural control in chronic ankle instability, foot orthoses designed to affect both types of mechanical and functional instability have a limited research background. In the present study, a type of foot orthosis named the custom mold with a raised ridge around the perimeter was designed, and manufactured, and its effect ...

Aim Joint Hypermobility Syndrome (JHS) is an inherited disorder of the connective tissue and can lead to widespread pain, joint instability and fatigue. In order to understand where patients with musculoskeletal symptoms and JHS present to secondary care we have established the prevalence of JHS within the pain management service, a general rheumatology clinic and an orthopaedic clinic of a sin...

We describe a five-year-old child with neurofibromatosis type I who developed a Charcot knee. Infiltration of the joint by tissue associated with the disease caused damage to the proprioceptive mechanism and resulted in severe joint instability, accelerated destruction and development of neuropathic arthropathy.

abstract patellar instability is a multifactorial common knee pathology that has a high recurrence rate, and the symptoms continue and ultimately predispose the patient to chondromalacia and osteoarthritis. tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove distance (tttg) is very important in the assessment of patellofemoral joint instability. the purpose of this study was to report normal value of tttg in ma...

Until relatively recently, discussion of shoulder instability referred only to traumatic and recurrent dislocations. Better clinical diagnosis and improved methods of investigation have now led to the recognition of subtle clinical lesions which present with no true dislocation, and show the increasing requirements of patients and sportsmen. Shoulder instability has become a fully-fledged syndr...

Several experimental models of osteoarthritis in rats are used to study the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis. Many mechanically induced models have the limitation that permanent joint instability is induced by, for example, ligament transection or meniscal damage. This permanent instability will counteract the potential beneficial effects of therapy. The groove model of osteoarthritis uses a o...

CONTEXT Current research into the etiology of joint instability has yielded inconsistent results, limiting our understanding of how to prevent and treat ligamentous injury effectively. Recently, cortical reorganization was demonstrated in patients with ligamentous injury; however, these neural changes have not been assessed relative to joint laxity. OBJECTIVE The purpose of the current study ...

BACKGROUND To the present day, literature has only discussed how to treat extensive plantar plate and collateral ligament lesions, with gross joint subluxation and obvious clinical instability. The treatment options for early stages of the disease with minor injuries and subtle instabilities have not been described. The main purpose of this prospective study is to evaluate the efficacy of the c...
